Not likely. That would only occur under circumstances where he signed away his rights. Otherwise, it's a lawsuit and a headache they don't want, even though it's a derivative work.

The fact that he's willing to deal with JJ Abrams or his flunkies who worked on the new trek movies put me off this.

Unless Paramount/CBS has a copyright noose tied so tight around Michael Gummelt's neck that it's leaving marks on his spine, why isn't he using Star Trek music? Using music from PROMETHEUS to sell Star Trek? Ugh.

Still, this feels like an elaborate hoax done by the studio. Anyone remember this promotional video for Jem and the Holograms?


Wow! Pictures, fan designs, music ideas, casting tidbits, ect. It almost come across like these guys care about what they're doing. Well, according to imdb.com,

The filmmakers made a request for fan participation in the form of open auditions for actors, singers, dancers, costume designers and other crew members to promote the film and to engage potential geniuses. It was later proved that this was just a viral marketing ploy in order to garner more attention for the film - the film was fully cast with Hollywood actors, cast and crew several months before this online casting call was put out.​

Now this information does come from imdb.com, but given how poorly the trailer was received, yeah. They were not looking for fan input at all.

This reeks of the same practice. Why would Paramount ask a fan for a TV show pitch when Paramount doesn't own the TV rights? And why would CBS collaborate with Paramount and let them dictate where a property they own should go? None of this makes any sense.

CBS/P is CBS' in-house studio - a lot of times when people in tv say "Paramount," CBS/P is the entity they're referring to.

I'm still annoyed that Jem isn't going to be animated and take place in the 80s where it's meant to be.

It's a rich history and it's NOT constraining in any way, because if your exploring new places what's behind you isn't a huge part of that.
I'll detect any stink of Abrams on it easily and turn away like a Morris the finicky cat! LOL
