Star Trek TNG era: How do you attatch the holsters to the costume?

I know the holsters for the phasers and tricorders have alice clips on the backs but what do THOSE attatch to? If it were slots or pockets on the pants, the weight would certainly pull them down a bit. Is there some sort of belt system we can't see that the holsters clip to?

The vacform holsters are attached to TNG era outfits using ALICE clips.

In scenes where holstered props do not have to be used, they are probably foam-rubber castings of the entire holstered prop (so it's very light weight).

The "cricket" hand phasers sometimes used, slipped into a pocket in the tunic.

The cricket phasers slipped into discreet pockets. Otherwise, the ALICE clips clipped to loops of reinforced fabric sewn directly to the uniform. I'll snap a photo of my FC uniform demonstrating this, but it was used on TNG as well. Also keep in mind, if we're discussing the TNG two piece uniform, that there would have been very minimal sagging on the pants because all the pants were held up by suspenders, with the exception of female uniforms which were jumpsuits which is kind of the same principle.

They just made loops of the same material and sewed them on the jump suit. Trust me,... I'm a Doctor!:lol

I think you're thinking TOS style era, that's how Kirk and Spock wore their gear.

I believe they actually started using velcro on the holsters in the first season, but soon found that wouldn't work. If you watch, much of the time you see the actors holding onto them as they moved. That was to prevent them from falling off.
