Star Trek: The Next Generation custom uniform

Hi everyone,

This is my first real post, so I hope you'll enjoy the pictures here. I've always enjoyed the movie-era uniforms from Wrath of Khan, but I enjoyed the TNG styling, so I figured - why not combine them?

This is the result:

And the undershirt:

I would like to try to get this made as a custom TNG costume, but I would need some help with it. Which materials do you think I should use? Which patterns? And does anyone know a good seamstress to actually make this?

Thanks for checking them out!

Wow , these look great !! They bring together all 3 eras for me ... classic , movies and TNG . Very nice .

Those look sharp!

I would go with a gabardine fabric, around 10oz.

Good link, thanks!

Alrighty, wool gabardine, 10 oz for the jacket. That's the material for the Wrath of Khan jacket, right? Which material would you think would work best for the undershirt - same as the Wrath of Khan undershirt material, or that from the First Contact uniforms?

The next question would be the correct colors for TNG red/yellow/blue for the different departments. I would be going for command red for the first uniform. Is there an exact color for them to match against?

As for patterns, where should I look for those - I know Roddenberry.com has them, but are they any good?

I really like these, they feel like they would fit nicely into that alternative time-line when the 1701-C paid a visit, awesome work

Great concepts! Love the creativity! Now the all important question- will the Picard shrug be necessary? ;)

One note about the Roddenberry patterns- they aren't actually correct. Some of the seam lines are off and etc. if you are using them as a base it might work, but you will have to design some patterns/alterations to be more authentic.

Excellent starting point...

They have tons of construction tips & guides...

And a quick search for their recommended fabric...here or here

Hmm...super stretch spandex for the Next Generation uniforms, wool gabardine for the Wrath of Khan jackets.

For the undershirt, it looks like I can use the Nemesis undershirt, using the collar from the TNG men's jacket pattern. This thread recommended a cotton/lycra for comfort on the undershirt, as did 'Admirable' in this thread, so I think that will settle the undershirt fabric I will get. The color, looks like this might be a good one.

For the jacket, Spike is saying 'wool elastique faced with wool gabardine' - is that what's called for in the patterns out there? He says the same for the pants as well.

So far, I will need the Nemesis tunic, TNG pants, TNG male jacket, and WOK male jacket. They can be had from Roddenberry or Xscapes. Any experience with the accuracy of either?

For the jacket flap, Wrath of Khan has a black piping along the outer edge, and a white interior...should I keep those or perhaps change the piping to department color? Or would the contrast on the front of the uniform look better with black?

I agree with you, the combinations of both look amazing! You would stand out at the conventions for sure. Star Trek 2-6 had the best uniforms in my opinion.
