Star Trek SS Tholian Ship

Steve over at SD Studios gave me the idea of adding the Aurora engines as an option. This way you can have the Tholian cruiser or the space cruiser Aurora :love I roughed out the removalable pylons in aluminum. They still need to be finished but this is close to the final shape.

At the risk of adding my voice to the "kit this sucker" chorus, should I interpret your last post (with the emphasis I added), as an indication that you are treating this as a master for molding?

Well, I would NOT call this a master for molding; more of a prototype to work out all of the bugs. I would never consider this one as accurate enough to reproduce. Already I know that the center core area of this one is slightly too big (tall) making the area between the pedals too prominent. As far as a kit goes; we will see if there is enough interest but I'm not sure the market is there quite honestly and besides I would have to partner with someone to do it. Will do an interest thread to see if there is enough interest and then will go from there.

Here are the finished pylons next to the proto-type models. Basically the little tab slides into a slot in the model and fits between the existing groove along the side. Works like a dream; nice and tight!

A couple more progress shots. I must say that the lines on this thing are just fantastic. It looks like a different shape from any angle you look at it from; very cool and a tribute to Matt Jefferies innovative designs. I'm waiting on the clear domes and of course it's got to be painted and aluminum inserts installed but man it's a cool ship already.

Don't sell yourself short - your "rejects" are still better than some people's kits that I've seen. and consider this reader 'interested'.

Thank-you Gene. I have spent ALOT of time researching this thing; too much :lol I do want it to be the definitive version. Stay tuned, I think an announcement may be made in the coming few weeks (perhaps) for an offering on a CORRECTED version.

Thanks! Worked a little on the stand. It's a 1" thick peice of acrylic with the graphic underneath (but not yet trimmed). I am going to have an aluminum trim around the perimeter but I like the look so far.

That is just simply amazing!!:eek
Do you have a build thread other than this one with more build pics?

This is the only thread and I didn't post a bunch of photos because I didn't want to bore anyone. I did take a bunch of photos of the build. Anything in particular you would like to see?

BTW, I know the engines are on backwards in the photos, lol, don't worry they will be correct!!! :lol

Those are both sweet builds . You do some nice work !!
Thanks a bunch!!!

I have wanted one of these for forever! I had some images and dimensions off an original model that I supplied to the Feekster. I hope they helped.

Feek and I will be working together on making production units. We just have some misc details to work out.

The replicas will be roto-cast and hand-painted and finished by me. They will include a plaque and display base. NO kits at this time. We will produce a VERY small run of each version and they will not be interchangable. (the paint is slightly different on each as well).

The triangles will be machine stamped and adhesive-backed. I will install them.

I will post something in the JY when we are ready to start. I am NOT selling them here because I live in total fear of another infraction point. :cry:lol

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
