I did find an instance where Scotty wore this vest with his gold department colored shirt:

These were from a British TV commercial, so they're totally canon, right? And the TNG sets just make it more, uh... canon-y?

(I've just noticed something about the RPF- every time I'm getting ready to start a new costume build, I find a picture of micdavis wearing that same costume twenty years earlier!)

I realize you did this 5 years ago, but do you recall what you used as your starting pattern for the vest, or did you actually draw the entire pattern from scratch?

Yeah, the pattern was scratch made. A vest is one of the easier things to pattern...
