Star Trek Picard Season Three

Yeah…Raffi is something of a bad hangover from the first two disastrous seasons…

Also…

Excuse me while I pat myself on the back for being correct regarding the identity of her “Handler”.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode and really don’t have any nitpicks. Honey Bunny was a bit much but some scenery chewing is fine with me.

I am liking Captain Shaw more and more.

Great to see Picard acting like Picard after two seasons of being a completely different character.
Yeah, that was a great catch. I wish they hadn’t dropped that “You are a warrior” hint. Also, no big surprise about Jack’s parentage, but they played the reveal beautifully—Crusher telling Picard with just a look. I liked that very much. And the elevator scene, when neither Picard nor Riker names the elephant in the room. Subtext, people—that’s how it’s done.

My only quibble is that after rebuffing Picard’s request in episode 1 because he’s retired, Shaw suddenly rolls over when Picard countermands him on his own bridge? Felt very wrong to me. But the rest of the episode was a gem. Amanda Plummer was fabulous. Wonderful to have a juicy villain who really does it well.

So far, this is vastly better than the other two seasons.

Incidentally, Gates McFadden looked better in person at Trekconderoga in August than she does in this episode. SMH.

I also have to hand it to the costuming department. I hated the Starfleet uniforms from the first two seasons as they looked like they were trying to hard. But the third season uniform looks like a natural progression from the Berman era.

For the first time since Deep Space Nine, I found myself rewatching an episode within the same week it aired. I've not bothered to rewatch any of the prior episodes of Picard again. But there were so many moments in this episode that were cathartic for the characters. It's almost like seeing Picard again for the first time since Nemesis.

I was just coming to write the same thing. It was the first episode of Pisscard that I’ve watched twice.

Season three FINALLY feels like actual TNG and I love it. Of course I cannot help but notice the change of show runners, though you can sometimes feel the stink of Kurtzman and Goldsman on plot points. But overall this is easily the best trek in decades. (and I like SNW)
I thought the second ep was actually better than the first, so lets hope that trend continues. The thing that really makes me sad now is that this is the last season of Picard, and we had to endure two unwatchable seasons to get here. Tragic.

I Am Mandalorian and So Can You! Wait where the hell was I going with this... oh right- apparently the blaster beam makes a return this season. Now have to think back on the first two eps, might scan them to see if I missed it as it's such an integrated part of the real, ahem, Trek soundtrack to me that I hate to say that I might have missed it. Episode 2's theme nod was a cool one as well. ;-)
As for content- I think if we had had this in a film, we'd be wondering why not a series, but having it as a series... it isn't as tight as it should be. Having the time to show inst of tell does not allow for meandering. I hope the episodes tighten up and can shed one of Trek's monkeys from its back- none of these folks would qualify for space. These folks are just too effed up. It feels as bad as nuBSG in that regard. Still, my fingers are crossed as there have been some moments. Just string em together the right way.

Todd Stashwick (Shaw) posted these pics of the upcoming exhibition. I'm really digging that Command uniform. First time I'm finding a uniform from nuTrek even worth looking at.
