Star Trek Picard Season Three

Another fantastic episode. I totally did not see that character coming. The heartfelt conversation between that character and Picard represent some of the best writing and performances in this show.

And I loved this scene! Stashwick is a Trek legend in progress.

And that holodeck scene is one of the best-executed reversals you’ll ever see. Just fantastic writing.

Can we just turn on a few f’n lights for f’s sake!!!
Are you watching it in HDR? They’ve had some HDR color grading problems that made the image way too dark. It’s correct in SDR. Matalas has promised to fix it.

It was much better this episode! You could actually SEE things! Terry Matalas was on twitter a few days ago saying there has been a messup with encoding the video and that they were trying to fix it.

Also... damnit Jim, I think Matalas & crew just saved Star Trek.... IF the powers-that-be allow what they've done to stick. This episode was so good I could cry tears for it. The respect paid to TNG canon, giving 'that' relationship closure in such a way. Worf still proving he has a sense of humor. Oh, man... this is Cobra Kai good. (Yeah, I said it!)

Now I’m hoping that Wesley shows up to‘fix’ Jack.

May your wish never come true, my friend. ;)

That would be a bummer of the worst sort if “Wesley The Traveler” crashed this party…

Honestly, I feel like I'm the only one unbothered by the darker interior ship sets. From a dramatic perspective, it makes more sense than beige walls and purple carpeting.

This is a well-lit set. You immediately get a sense of the characters, design, and geography. Moodier than the TV ship, but that fits both the theatrical nature and tone of the film.

False equivalency.

A great episode.

I still can’t believe I’m watching Star Trek: Picard and liking what I’m seeing.

If you'd told me last year that in 2023 I'd be more looking forward to the next episode of Picard Season 3 than to the next episode of The Mandalorian Season 3, I'd tell you to **** off.

Terry Matalas must be doing something right.

I fail to see how this is not a set that is well-lit, yet dark enough to fit the overall tone of the series. The bridge gets darker later on since the entire ship starts losing all of it's power, but that makes sense, given the events in the story.

Opinions are valid, but I wouldn't call this a "false equivalency".

I thought you were referring to the overly-dim lighting of NuTREK in general, as opposed to the specific lighting conditions mentioned above. My mistake!

I haven't seen all of the new series yet (hell, I don't think I've ever finished an actual series start-to-finish, but I guess I haven't noticed any particular instances of it being too bad. I particularly love the lighting of the Pike-era Enterprise in SNW.

False comparison much? Lol. The choice isnt between a reverse backlit low key light filming style and a1990’s SciFi interior design.

There is a new cinematographer style that likes to show outlines of characters against a backlight. No idea why this has taken over some scifi but I find the style lacking in many ways. Dark does not equal dramatic.

While I’m ranting what’s up with the cinematic end scene music on each location shift?? It had me anticipating titles 4-5 times.
