Star Trek monster maroons with First Contact colors

Hi everyone,

It's my first post and I'm really hoping people can give a 38 year old first time cosplayer some advice. What I'm looking to do is take the monster maroon style uniforms and give it the color treatment of the First Contact uniforms. Here's specifically what I'm thinking:

-- Monster maroon jacket with grey shoulders and black body

-- TOS movie undershirt in FC division colors

-- TOS movie pants with FC division color stripe (maybe. might go with FC style pants with division color stripe)

The only thing I'm not sure about is having the colored piece that goes over the right shoulder that's used for the rank insignia and jacket closure.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I had a monster maroon made about a year ago - altogether it cost over £800 and took about 7 months! But it was a labour of love. I wrote all about it on my blog here, so I hope you might be able to benefit from my ups and downs.

(Incidentally, it's for sale! on ebay here and I'll be putting it onto the Junkyard later today.)

Would love to see some rough renders of perhaps what you had in mind in terms of changing the colour scheme.

Renders are something I know zero about. I have no artistic talent whatsoever. I have a friend that's a decent artist so I'll see if she can draw up something rough for me. The harder part for me will be the actual construction. I plan to do the sewing myself and since I haven't touched a sewing machine since the early '90s this will definitely be a challenge.

I wasn't thinking of anything complicated. But, say search online for a decent-sized image of the TWOK uniform, then alter the colours and stuff in Photoshop to give an idea of what you're trying to do. Everyone would love to see it. Yeah, the sewing will be a pig... ;)

The Division color might make for a good shoulder strap to tie it in together... i guess my question is are you envisioning it more as a dress uniform or a daily uniform? dress would "enable" you to take advantage of gold pipping and such... every day not as much..
