Star Trek Med kit case foam lining?

What is the best foam to use for lining a Medical or Engineering kit?

I've seen open cell, closed cell, plastazote and various others on e-bay.

I'm looking for a black foam that will be soft on the paint work of my Voyager medical props as the cases will likely be their long-term storage place and I need a foam that won't react with or stick to the props over the years.

Thanks

Polyethylene foam is typically what uses in higher-end camera equipment cases. It's not the softest, but it lasts much loner and sheds less then the cheaper open-cell foam like in Peli cases. It's also pretty easy to cut.
