Star Trek Into Darkness (Pre-release)

Quick question: How come this thread suddenly got so full of snide comments and personal attacks?

Even if star trek is going to be as bad as you say its going to be JJ has star wars now and he has said before that he like star wars more than star trek so that I am excited for.

Bwaaaaa haaaaa haaa

Thats one down. I realize there's a haze circling the heads of those who believed this movie was to be anything other than more scene transplanting, placing golden moments into the mouths of those who can't deliver. This is the same terrible script I read 6 months ago - except the John Harrison thing which is just --- whew, man I can't -- wow.

I'm sorry if I'm gloating - but its an effort to remain humble. Now, apologies are to be delivered by way of burning any JJ Trek items in a safe manor.

BTW There was one thing I loved in the new film - but wont post because of spoilers - but how can one spoil something already rotten? lol

and just a question here you know the shot on the poster when the wounded Enterprise was falling from the sky --- there are trails of smoke - does the Enterprise use fossil fuels? lol

Eep, can't venture into the post release thread yet.

Has anyone seen this in a Dolby Atmos theater?

The Powerful 3-D Sound Of "Star Trek Into Darkness"
On Tuesday night, Star Trek Into Darkness concluded its worldwide media tour with a red carpet premiere at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. As befitting a Star Trek movie, the event utilized the most state-of-the-art equipment currently available for movie exhibition — namely, some 200 speakers and 13 sub-woofers all specifically attuned for the new Dolby Atmos sound system, which transforms traditional “surround sound” into something truly three-dimensional. It’s particularly evident at several key moments in the film, when the sound is genuinely awesome and all-encompassing.

We have one here in SF at the Metreon, but it's also a 3D screening, which I kinda loathe with a vengeance, but would love to hear this Atmos soundtrack.

Comments?

i've read all I need to know this lukewarrm response will quickly fade into denial then finally acceptance - The prequels were met with more fanfare and the eventual realization - seeing past the new-- took most about 3 months - i give this thing one or two months - tops.

and as for Rottentomatoes - i'll quote to you what Scott Ross quoted to us years ago "it's mostly fansites that use the meter at Rottentomatoes because it's a flood site - if they don't like the way it's tilting, the people at RT manifest reviews to move it in the desired direction."

backside pats well deserved

Luke warm?! I don't know about you, sister, but my FaceBook feed is chocker block with non-Trek fans falling over themselves with admiration for the film. And my Trek friends are easily 75/25 loving it. How do you like your crow served?

Sister? Crow'? Oh... that's anger. Even more proof you know My point rings your ears.

i'm sure your ( snicker) facebook is much in the know when it comes film - You have to know the falloff will be spectacular. See, I went to see this after a WGA function with abut 20 people and the vote was unanimous - and some there wanted this to be successful.

So dont be mad Beyonce' - just learn - see me as MOVIE ****** - i ask for nothing but your open mind

I'm starting to think jet will rip apart and tear down any movie that he hasn't written himself, no matter how good the majority of America thinks it is.

I think he is so delusional as to think a room of failed screen writer hacks knows anything about the making of films. THAT JUST HAPPENED!

I went to the movies with my parents and got stuck watching this film because Iron Man 3 started an hour later than this one. So, had to watched it. It was okay. It wasn't a slap to the face of Star Trek fans like the first one was. Was it "one of the greatest Star Trek movies?" Not even close. It was okay. Not great, but okay.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I don't keep the company of "failed screenwriter hacks" - you really have no idea what you're saying - but frustration will do that. I'd watch the childish name calling in the future - say what you want about me -

And I only tear down bad movies which is what this was and is - MOST of America likes it? - this weekend. And remember Full House was top in the ratings for a chunk on time as well. This film lacks any originality, focus or built in motivation - they did everything just to get us to scenes we've seen before in a better movie.

you want to know what was good last night??? The Tom Yum soup we had at this Thai place - i wish I could take all of you there - THAT'S how delicious it was.

Just saw the movie, and I was entertained. Maybe not as good as the first, but was worth my money.

Interesting. I saw it this afternoon, and thought it was better than the '09 movie. Was it (or the previous movie) the Star Trek I grew up watching? No, of course not; it's not supposed to be. But if you're looking for a decent "sci-fi/action/popcorn" movie, you could do far worse.
