Star Trek ID card

It was used in ST III and IV by Sulu & Chekov. It looks like two pices of aluminium hinged together. Did it have any details ?

I don't mean the ST III security ID by the way.

Hi Kennyd,

have you got pictures or screen shots?

No, and I can't do screen caps at the moment :(
It's first seen in ST III when Sulu talks to the security guard who calls him "tiny", and in ST IV it's on screen when the Feds interrogate Chekov on the aircraft carrier.

Doesn't anyone remember this prop ? I know it's not as exciting as a phaser but when you see the other obscure stuff that gets mentioned..... :confused

Even in HD it's pretty hard to see.

Now, if you look, there does appear to be either a Starfleet or UFP symbol on it. So if it is a calculator, the buttons were removed and a round symbol put in their place.

I would say that the fact it was never filmed closeup says that whoever threw this together knew in advance that would be the case and simply slapped it together out of whatever was lying around.

Say, didn't Richard Coyle work on ST III or IV? I will yell at him and ask him to chime in...

Just to chime in on the Horizontal/Vertical thing...

It could be that the badge/symbol is oriented one direction, and the actual ID portion is the other way. I've seen official ID's like this before. I'm sure we've all seen them in various Movies and TV shows. Agencies like the FBI or CIA would probably use something like that. Their badge on one side and their ID on the other side but turned 90 degrees.

Hence, Sulu is flashing the "badge" to the jailor while the interrogator with Chekov is reading his information.

(Though a GIS of "FBI Credentials" doesn't seem to support my hypothesis. And has probably flagged my computer by the government! >.< )

Just my 2 cents.

check the archive of the huge auctions that were run a while back. There's a dude that saved every picture from every auction. I cannot say with certainty that it was included in that auction, but it might be a good starting place.
