Star Trek Beyond - Fem!Spock Uniform Dress

Hi guys.. First of all, excuse my poor english.. But here we go. So since Star Trek Beyond is gonna premiere only in September on my country :cry I started to make I had the desire to make the uniform used in the film.. Actually, I was gonna cosplay on the premiere as Fem!Spock but I wanted the Star Trek XI dress, but since I couldn't afford one or make one (the delta pattern on the fabric is a REAL pain in the ass, and digital printing fabric is pretty expensive, so), I changed my mind and I went to this uniform version instead, and I have to admit, I love it, the design is amazing and I'm gonna love it. I'm gonna probably live in this dress after making it. :$ Gonna drop here some reference pics I'm using.. I'm not gonna use the Anovos dress for my reference because I hated they're design and I found one closest of the one I wanted (actually these references are much closer from the original dress than Anovos ones).





So, I have a degree on patternmaking, but I only work with regular fabric, not jersey/knit, so making the pattern for this dress was a pain in my head, but I found a solution, this awesome dress pattern here: http://so-sew-easy.com/perfect-for-work-dress-pattern/ This pattern actually saved my life, since is a jersey knit dress with sleeves, I just have to adjust to fit the uniform design.I'm gonna post some pics of the pattern tomorrow, since I don't have them with me now. I hope you guys enjoy this thread, since is the first one I see here that's fucosing on the female uniform dress. If there's anyone who's gonna cosplay as Uhura or any female from Beyond and want to chat about this sewing project, send me a message, I'll love to reply. And if you guys are making some of the Beyond uniform, let's talk too, share some thoughts, it may help a lot.

Oh thanks, the boots are really difficult to see on the reference pics I found, so this is gonna help me a lot.. But since I can't afford a new boot for now, I'm gonna use a boot cover on the top of boot I already have.. Anyway, thanks dear

Yeah, I know it's patterned off the original but I didn't like it that much, and maybe it's just because the fabric doesn't match, but I'm not using them as reference.

Yep, the fabric is different and that bugs me out, really, a big company like Anovos do something like that? Maybe it's just the prototype, but I really hated.

This is the fabric I'm gonna work, found this one on my local store and it's a jersey knit (don't know the name of this fabric) on royal blue. For the dark panels, I'm gonna dye this fabric using a special dye for this kind of fabric on navy blue. The color of the fabric is not 100% accurate, but it will work out, since I'm not planning on doing it 100% screen accurate, so.. I actually hope this works.

Hello again! Here some pics of the progress.. I'm in love with this dress, for real. :love The sleeve cuffs were really difficult to figure out, but I finally did it!!! I'm using satin ribbon for the rank (not the right thing, but for now it will work out). I need to re-dye the dark pannels, because it ended almost the same color and I blame my no-sense of measure (I put too much water). But for now, I'm loving sewing this dress.. Working with this kind of fabric is easier than I though. Also, I'm thinking of put the pattern for this dress for download, if anyone is interested, let me know.

Hi again! I finished the dress, finally! I'm sad because it not ended 100% like I thought, but it's looking good. The pictures I took are looking terrible, gonna take more decent one's soon... This pics don't show the beauty of the topstitch work on this dress which is the thing the I loved to do. I tested the wig, along with the ears and the boot covers. Boot cover are not the best for cosplay, I know, but it's what I can afford now.. I bought the ears from ebay and then put some foundation to match the color of my skin.



Also, does anyone got any tips on how to deal with your parents when cosplaying? My mom and my father almost freaked out when they seen me on this costume, which upseat me a little. I'm really confident about cosplaying, but that really upset me because since I'm gonna go watch the movie wearing this, they freaked out because I was gonna go out in public looking like a freaking alien (I'm gonna take public transportation too, so).. I don't care if people look at me or think I'm strange, but they seem to care a lot about that. I don't know how to deal with this, so.. Any tips?

I really like it! Sorry that your parents freaked out. Parents sometimes have a way of being critical because they want to protect you from harm or ridicule. I guess they feel like strangers are going to give you a hard time. I say go for it, keep your spirits up!

I do not know if you or your parents will know Adam Savage. But he provided a very good tribute to cosplay and the culture of people who enjoy it. It is a lengthy video but if your parents can stay to the end maybe they will understand what many people and perhaps you feel about this creative artform. There are probably a number of other videos which will illustrate that cosplay is a very mainstream activity for people of all ages and all cultures.

Oh yes, I love Adam Savage, he's one of my role models for cosplay and costume design as well. I love the work he do, to freely speak about cosplay to the mainstream public as well for us and put cosplay on a place it deserves. I think most people only say mean things about cosplay because they don't understand it, and I think Adam is changing it. I love this video, I almost cried watching it and yes, I agree with you, cosplay is a very mainstream activity for people of all ages and all cultures and for me, I think every day it inspires more and more people to become more creative, to think about what they are doing, to go and search other ways of doing one thing, to look at what they love differently.. This is cosplay for me and it inspired me to pursue a career of costume design, which is amazing to work with something you truly love. Anyway, I'll continue my craftsmanship, I don't give up on things I love so easily.. Anyway, thanks, that means alot to me.

I think I would like that. I mean I kind of have odd measurements for a couple of personal reasons but yeah.

And I'm not quite decided between blue or yellow, but it's nice to have a starting point while I try to figure it out.

Send me your bust, waist and hip measurements (on private if you're not confortable) and I'll see how can I instruct you on resizing the pattern.. I mean, everyone have odd measurements.. I pick my size for this dress and it ended a little big around my bust, waist and hip and I have to sew down the extra fabric, but it worked out.
