STAR TOURS: STAR SPEEDER 3000 (Repaint)

Hello guys,
I’ve started working on a new project which is a repaint and rebuild of the STAR SEEPDER 3000.
I purchased the STAR SPEEDER 1000 playset at the Disneyland California last summer and was planning to repaint it to the classic 3000 color (white with blue lines) of the original STAR TOURS. This project might be very simple and I’m thinking to finish this for just a couple weeks, so it’s not going to be super detailed. The main part is painting rather than modeling.

Overall the toy itself is well made and pretty big. (compare to my iPhone5) I think it’s bigger than the studio scale. This is for Husbro’s basic STAR WARS figures, so you could imagine how big it is. They finally made this nice modeled toy, but unfortunately, only for the new STAR SPEEDER 1000. The classic STAR TOURS was my all time favorite in Disneyland and born in the same year as me, so I want to have a 3000. Some of the details are not accurate with the prop, but overall I believe this is the best STAR SPEEDER model in the market.

I took away the inside seats which I don’t need.

The inside is very simple. It’s easy to take apart.

I decided to change the window for the final detail, so cut them off.

Filled down the edges.

Looking forward for future updates. I love toy mods. Didn't know that they did a second version, but with Hasbro I should have guessed. ;) Just curious, whatcha gonna do with the seats?

I’ll probably make this as a display model, not a playset for figures, so I’m planning just taking off the seats for easier access to the backside. I might put LED lights so it could be a good place to set lights.

cool! had this on my to do list for the longest time but then college got in the way :( Cannot wait to see your progress I'll be watching this thread with interest

Oh! I’ve seen your thread and actually it pushed me to do this a couple years ago. Thanks! I’ll post constantly!

I filled some of the unnecessary ditches which are on the SS1000 not SS3000 by Bondo.

Also the sub blasters are only for this toy so I filled them.

I cut the taped part and made them flat for a new acrylic window.

I’ve been working on modifying the ditches and other details. I noticed that this has many incorrect lines and shapes especially for the 3000, so modifying has been taken much longer than I expected.

While I’m working on the main body, I started some of the painting which I don’t really need to modify. For this model, I chose the MAX Painting (gradation painting) which was very popular way to paint plastic models when I was a child.

It starts from the base black and apply white from center to edges. (I’m not really good at)

This is the first coat, so still too strong then I applied white 2–3 times and put some mists for subtle it down.

I applied some damages and soots.

And also I finished some of the computer works which is making decal stickers.

Love this! I have been looking for one on the bay. I have not been able to bring myself to buying a new one to mod and display in my Star Tours themed office.

This is looking really good so far. Thanks for posting, I've been wanting to do this to mine but I've been putting it off. Maybe seeing yours finished will finally motivate me to start on mine.

Star Tours themed office?! That sounds very interesting! Do you mind if I ask what kind of office is for?

My home office.

I can't find my other photos, but here is a taste.

I am in the process of moving into a new house. So, it is all in boxes right now.
