STAR TOURS: STAR SPEEDER 3000 (Repaint)

Wow, great work! I've been on both versions, so it's interesting to see somebody modding the 1000 to 3000!

Before moving, I was working on a star tours office/bedroom myself! I even made a custom framed pin display using all pre-redux Star Tours pins and an original Star Tours post-card.

I've always loved this ride too. I even made a diorama of the queue that was on display at the Star Wars Celebration in 2007 to scale of the figures (they are at Endorexpress.com). If you'd like, I can post pics. Thanks for posting your pics. I'll have to borrow your techniques. I've not heard of that paint-gradation one before, but it is quite effective. Are you using enamel- or acrylic-based paint? Great job! Can't wait to see the final project. I was debating on which one to do first: this or making the Raiders truck from in front of the Indiana Jones Ride at Disneyland. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful job! One of my early jobs was at Disneyland working in the Star Tours shop. Great ride, and that's the one I remember, too!

Not sure how I missed this thread, but I bought two of this toy with the intention of painting one white-and-blue, but I could never figure out how to crack the thing apart!

Doesn't look like the OP has contributed here in quite a while. Hope he drops by and sees this bump, and shows us his progress pics.

Sorry for super late answer. The blue stripes are paints by just masking. I scanned the body and made a template by Illustrator and printed on just a regular paper, then made like stencil.

Hi Alex, sorry for late reply. I’ve not been able to work on this for a while. (hoping to work in my summer break)

Could you ask me a little bit more specifically? Which part couldn’t you open? I thought I just used screw driver though!

Hoping I can catch the attention of SS3000 with a little bump to this post.

I recently got in a beater SS1000 from eBay for the grand total of $27 shipped, so I'm committing myself to actually completing the project this time.

I never did bring myself to cut apart my first two SS1Ks, plus I was always afraid if I did, Disney would immediately release a white-and-blue version.

This one has some broken doors, though, which I need to fix first before I begin painting.

The plan right now is to retain most of the electronic functions and still allow action figures to sit in the interior. I already removed the seats, which will be painted orange.

Oh, and one nice blessing to the project was a like and comment from the head of Disney Parks Merchandise on my FB post about it, saying he was looking forward to seeing it.

Hopefully I can take that to mean there is not any current plan for them to sell one in this deco!

SS3000, did you ever complete this conversion? Would love to see how it turned out.

Alex

I'm glad that you got such a beat-up version of the ship. One doesn't see many of these, much less ones that aren't prestine. I hope that it was played with so much that the doors broke off.
