Star-Lord Ensemble ( Con photos, page 6 )

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( TPS-L2 finished on page 5 )

Which jacket did you get? I need to get one and I'm trying to figure out which is the bet for the money.

Ebay.

Sorry for the selfie spam, but I can't stop myself! Today I glued a belt clip to my resin Walkman. I used the clip off of an old tape measure, and it works really well.

Earlier today I was talking with a fellow RPF member about getting Quill's belt and buckle made...if you haven't noticed, I'm not very versatile when it comes to the soft parts of a costume. Make a very complex helmet or a replica 1979 Walkman? Sure, no problem. Use a sowing machine? I CAN'T EVEN.

Tomorrow I'm going to put some quality time into Kevin Gossett's blasters...hopefully I have some more progress pics to show soon.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( Page 5, my jacket has arrived! )

Last week I received my genuine TPS-L2 in the mail...thought I would take some photos comparing my replica against the real deal.

Comparison notes:

1) The height, width and length are almost identical. My replica is a bit shorter and a little bit thicker, but the width is spot on.

2) Colours vary quite a bit. I'll be painting up another Walkman kit in the near future, this time I can hopefully get a closer blue.

3) Obviously some details are completely missing or placed incorrectly.

4) Orange button on top of the real TPS-L2 stands much taller than mine. This can be easily fixed.

5) The SONY/Walkman letters are much larger on mine. I'll be rectifying this by building a new tape cover with laser cut letters with closer specs.

Overall, I'm still quite pleased with how mine turned out. I'll be using the resin Walkman for costuming purposes since I would hate to wreck my real TPS-L2 by gluing a clip to the back, so it will sit at home on display. Pretty cool to own a real one though!

More to come! I also received my sling bag in the mail this week, I'll have pics of that up soon.

Damn! With your skills would you be able to replicate the highly sought after AIWA HS-P07 Walkman from Back to the future? I can guarantee you there is a market in that.

I think I'm going to take a break from replicating 30 year old electronics for a while! :lol

Here's a pic of the sling bag i picked up on ebay.

It's not accurate in the slightest, but for 30 bucks, It'll do. I plan on making a few mods to improve the way it looks, such as placing a ravage label over the lettering on the one compartment and replacing the strap with a leather strap with accurate buckle.

Also, to anyone else considering this bag; be warned that it's fairly small. I'm 5'7, 150 pounds and it fits me fine, but I can't see it fitting anyone taller than me very well.

More to come.

That looks like the exact same bag I got - if you have a seam ripper, you can take the front pouches and that loop off entirely and have a blank canvas to work with.

I agree that it's very small! It suits me fine (I'm 5'1", but it looks SO SMALL on my 6'2" husband!), but I found it hard to get much stuff into it. Once I had the Orb in it, there wasn't much room for anything else (which was fine - I wasn't carrying much!). I am hoping to try to make it more accurate eventually, but it definitely worked my last con.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( Page 5, my jacket has arrived! )

Hey everyone! Got an update for you. I've been slowly upgrading my entire costume with more accurate parts. My first con is in just a little more than a month so time is quickly ticking away. Today I received my spats from RPF member Dannylopuz. They look great!

Here they are fitted with my sketchers. I love the way they fit and look.

Soon my accurate belt and my new bag should be here. Starting to get fairly excited about this whole thing!

More to come.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( Update on page 6 )

Today I finished up the new Walkman I've been working on for a few weeks. This one is much more accurate, and I'm not going to weather it as heavily as the first one I completed. I can't bring myself to ruin the pretty paint job!

Also, I received the gloves I'll be using for my costume from my pal Kevin Skiera. These are the Condor HK 226 model gloves. They aren't 100% accurate but they look the part.

More to come! T-minus 16 days until my first con. Lots of work to be done.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( Update on page 6 )

Been slowly chipping away at the new helmet I started working on...

First I bought all the supplies for painting the helmet.

16808834398_8c737a5a41_c.jpg

Started off with a coat of white primer.

Then a solid coat of gunmetal.

Then I painted all the gold sections.

Then I masked off and painted the silver details on the front of Star-Lord's mask.

The helmet was looking a little too new and shiny for my tastes so I went to town with the weathering.

Waiting on my lenses from Risu to finish the helmet off. More to come.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( New helmet painted on page 6 )

Nice paint job. Thanks for posting a picture of the paints used as well.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( New helmet painted on page 6 )

Ok to say this without sounding rude or anything...but don't the details on the back only run vertically and don't actually turn to follow the shape? or was this a conscious decision? I have seen this as well in the other post that almost has the most screen accurate look other than that detail.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( New helmet painted on page 6 )

Although that back detail is not SA, I like that design option better than what was done on the movie helmet, myself.

He sculpted it before we got a good look at the back of the helmet

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( New helmet painted on page 6 )

Just thought I would ask, and looking I think I agree that this design may actually look better than the screen used....I remember thinking that if they curved on the sides why not the back? Anyways it looks AMAZING and I'd trade mine in a heartbeat for it, I bought a Chinese cast and filled/sanded/mod'd it to look more SA

I started working on this helmet back in late 2013, when we only had a few select images of the front of the mask. Pictures of the back did not exist at that time, so the initial 3D model has some obvious inaccuracies due to a lack of reference. Good catch, though!

Well dude its sick, so my hat is off to you, and my first attempt was a foam based helmet and I had the same design. That was back even before people started circulating that ABC screenshot where you could finally see the back of the helmet. As I said though best looking helmets I've seen.

Re: Star-Lord Ensemble ( New helmet painted on page 6 )

So is that helmet a resin re-cast from a mold that you made of the 3D model you had printed or the 3D print glued, filled and primed?
