Re: Star-Lord mask ( "The Orb" finished on page 3 ))

The collection is growing.

At this point, I'm contemplating putting together the full suit. I already have the helmet/guns/Awesome Mix/Orb and have the Walkman on order. We'll see.

You works are totally AWESOME!! Umm...one question, how did you do the casting on the helmet?? How did you make the hollow mother mold or something that you do, I don't know what it's called. I am really new to molding and casting. I am starting on a project, could you teach me? That would be a lot of help.

Thanks, PooMmm

How's the visibility through the tail light film?
It's exactly the look I've been looking for in lenses.

Surprisingly good! Haven't had any issues wearing the helmet...just be prepared to see everything in a shade of red!

Good to hear! I made lenses from a red clipboard but they're almost pinkish. To the automotive store I go.!

Re: Star-Lord mask ( "The Orb" finished on page 3 ))

Started work on the guns! A few little air bubbles to fill and then it's time to paint.

Also, I ordered a pair of those cheap Soundlab headphones that have been linked to several times on the forums. One more piece of the puzzle. Hopefully they show up in the mail this week.

Re: Star-Lord mask ( the guns started on page 3 )

Started working on my updated helmet. Now that I don't have a deadline, I will be able to rectify the accuracy of the helmet I built for the movie premier.

First big improvement - the engraved holes around the front of the mask.

15326662215_eaae23041c_c.jpg

These were easy to do...just used a drill bit on my dremel.

Here's a shot of the bottom of the helmet, showing what I had to trim in order to make my helmet fit.

Here's a shot of the helmet from the very front, taken from 6 feet away to make sure there's little lens distortion.

Next up, the greebles!

Saying these were a pain in my butt would be a understatement. Air bubbles galore with these smaller casts!

And a look at how the longer tube pieces on the side fit my helmet - almost perfectly!

And the pieces that attach on the front. These are ridiculously small. Without a doubt, the smallest pieces I have ever had to mold and cast.

Finally, a selfie to brighten your Monday.

The helmet still has a few janky areas that need to be fixed, but I'm not too far off from throwing some paint on there.

More to come.

Re: Star-Lord mask ( blasters and updated helmet starting on page 3 )

Awesome work on the helmets. I need to learn how to do casting and molds. I am in the middle of printing off the parts for my helmet now. (some for the 3rd time!!!) I am also printing off parts for the blasters, boot rockets, orb and a walkman too. Needless to say that I got the files from other members here. (which I am eternally grateful for) ;) I have very little experience in 3D modeling and have lots to learn.

Re: Star-Lord mask ( blasters and updated helmet starting on page 3 )

Hi,
This photo might be able to help you out a bit. No offence, but I think the chin part might have a little tube on it for both sides too. (If you are planning to do that, I am sorry)

Good Luck!

Re: Star-Lord mask ( the guns started on page 3 )

I am so jealous.
You make fantastic work, the helmet is looking amazing.
I bow at your skills. I am just starting out at making props and costumes.
I still have to order my helmets though.
I doubt I will ever be as good as you.
Any way just wanted to give you your dues, even though you no doubt get it all the time.
Hope you make the entire suit.

Re: Star-Lord mask ( blasters and updated helmet starting on page 3 )

I saw your PM, but I think I'll just answer to you here since I keep getting quite a few messages from people asking about helmet kits.

I WILL NOT BE SELLING ANY STARLORD HELMET CASTINGS.

Believe me, I'd love to sell them, but I am legally contracted not to. Check the junkyard if anyone reading this wants a SL mask.

Re: Star-Lord mask ( blasters and updated helmet starting on page 3 )

Got my updated helmet in primer. Glad I took the extra time to fix some issues my first finished one had...this one is much cleaner!

I would say it's almost ready for paint, sans a few problems areas that need a patch of putty. Now I just need to attach the tubes, and find my paint colours. Anyone found any close rattlecan paints that match the hero helmet? I've been having a difficult time sourcing anything I like.

More to come.
