ST: Strange New Worlds Canceled

After the absolutely STUPID zombie episode this week, nothing else will surprise me!

Even this upcoming episode.

So far we have gotten:
A crossover episode with a cartoon.
A musical episode.
Spock written like a cross between Data and Sheldon.
A crew that has very little resemblance to anything approaching being professional.
The Gorn turned into Alien.
The reuse of Trelane.

Now we are getting a muppet episode.

I think I’m about done. I think I’ll just rewatch episodes of TOS.

Again,
it appears that a small but very vocal group will support this show despite its obvious stupidity and bad writing. Anyone who challenges this garbage gets attacked, more in social media like FACEBOOK... generally. I know it sucks. But with some of these people I started to doubt my take on it. So I had my wife watch it( because some of my friends blame their wife for watching this stuff) and she said it sucked. She will watch the Original Trek but she's no Trekkie.
Then I had my son watch it. He is a Trekkie. He said it sucked.
Then my brother and his co workers put it on a super huge TV at work... It was a mix of Trekkies and non Trekkies.
THEY all said it sucked.
Yeah, I know it's just a TV show.

Unless you fall in line with that small but very vocal group and agree it's the best thing since Original Trek.

Which it ain't.

Please keep in mind that you are not only preaching to the choir here.

I actually like the show very much, even with all the experimentation, and sometimes because of it.

I won't insult you for disliking it, and I hope you won't do the same to those of us who do. I'm not part of a vocal minority. I just like the show.

I don't know anything about what goes on on Facebook so its rather startling to want to discuss a show and walk face-first into this level of hostility aimed towards an apparent faceless mass of people who enjoy something.

So I hate to agree with the people flinging that hostility on any of their criticisms of the show, but I'm also getting a touch concerned about the number of gimmick episodes we've been getting. The show is at its best doing straightforward character-driven space opera, stuff like "Children of the Comet," "Memento Mori," or "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow." And I even like some of the gimmick episodes like the Lower Decks crossover. But these would be easier to enjoy if they were in 22+ episode seasons. With only 10 episodes I find myself wanting more serious stories and fewer...puppets.

I've got the whole TOS on physical media. Watch it all the time. Couldn't care less about SNW.

It's all LCD trash. I'm sorry to offend any fans of the current output, but these series are so far removed from the ethos of Star Trek that it does feel insulting. Hearing Kurtzman talk about "reaching across the aisle" and "not making a political statement" is absolutely insane. Trek was always about showing the human race as having reached a near utopia and never once (until the BS with Section 31 in DS) felt like they needed to show the "dark side" of that utopia. It flies in the face of everything that Star Trek is about. Seeing that wall of memberberry names in the Starfleet Academy trailer felt like another nail in the coffin. Just like Doctor who, Trek needs a hibernation.

Little baby Alex clearly didn't like that Terry Matalas delivered something better in one season than he done over multiple shows over multiple years. And Season 3 of Picard wasn't the greatest either, but at least it FELT like Star Trek.

That wasn't until TNG. TOS was optimistic about the future, but it wasn't a utopia. There was still bigotry (Lt. Styles), admiration for dictators (Space Seed, to Spock's confusion), and propensity to violence (Day of the Dove and more). It was also implied that they still used money; the no money thing didn't start until the TOS movies.

and never once (until the BS with Section 31 in DS) felt like they needed to show the "dark side" of that utopia.

That started with DS9. Where Section 31 originated.
