Hi everyone. Just wanted to share pics of my SS MK IV viper I'm working on. This is the ill fated Michael Miles kit. It took some work but it's getting there. Alot of painting still needs to be done alon with scratch building an instument panel...never did get it
. I decided to paint it as an evolutionary paint scheme between the Mk II and the MK VII...more subdued markings but still having the stripes....instead of TOS type markings that the instructions showed since this was supossed to be in the continuation series. I did losely follow how the markings were supposed to look but gave them a more new seies flare.
Only got the on side's markings done because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do for the stripes but I think it's looking pretty sharp now. I also slightly alternated the panels coloring which ca be seen on the clean side a little bit better in the pictures.
As for a back story for these ships....I like to think that the MK IV was still in service at the time of the Cylon attack, but it was in smaller numbers and mainly relegated to reserve units in less than desirable locations, such as outposts or some of the lesser colonies. Not exactly the assignment most New Viper jocks want, because it is not as glamorous as the new MK VII's...but they are more heavily armed then any other Viper model. Once the Cylons attacked, though, these Vipers were fairly effective being older and not equiped with the newer nav programs that the rest of the fleet and most MK VII's had, thus were able to put up some what of a fight against the Cylons. Once it was realised that the fleet was lost and no support was comming, these Vipers turned to hit and run tactics until damage, lack of good maintanace, and attrition shrunk their numbers and they wher hidden from the cylons, by the various resistance groups, until they could hopefully once agian be used to fight.
