Hi everyone. Just wanted to share pics of my SS MK IV viper I'm working on. This is the ill fated Michael Miles kit. It took some work but it's getting there. Alot of painting still needs to be done alon with scratch building an instument panel...never did get it

. I decided to paint it as an evolutionary paint scheme between the Mk II and the MK VII...more subdued markings but still having the stripes....instead of TOS type markings that the instructions showed since this was supossed to be in the continuation series. I did losely follow how the markings were supposed to look but gave them a more new seies flare.

Only got the on side's markings done because I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to do for the stripes but I think it's looking pretty sharp now. I also slightly alternated the panels coloring which ca be seen on the clean side a little bit better in the pictures.

As for a back story for these ships....I like to think that the MK IV was still in service at the time of the Cylon attack, but it was in smaller numbers and mainly relegated to reserve units in less than desirable locations, such as outposts or some of the lesser colonies. Not exactly the assignment most New Viper jocks want, because it is not as glamorous as the new MK VII's...but they are more heavily armed then any other Viper model. Once the Cylons attacked, though, these Vipers were fairly effective being older and not equiped with the newer nav programs that the rest of the fleet and most MK VII's had, thus were able to put up some what of a fight against the Cylons. Once it was realised that the fleet was lost and no support was comming, these Vipers turned to hit and run tactics until damage, lack of good maintanace, and attrition shrunk their numbers and they wher hidden from the cylons, by the various resistance groups, until they could hopefully once agian be used to fight.

Re: SS MK IV viper WIP

Hi everyone, here are some new pictures of the Viper. I painted and detailed the "equipment" area, added in the "bleed air" vents painted the canon and started scratch building the instrument panel. I really need to get in touch with JT graphics for the decals....anyone know if he also does the instument panels? I just put the seat and pilot and canopy on so you can all see how it looks. Hope you like.

Chris

P.S. sorry for the bad pictures....it's evening here but I wanted to show some progress.

Re: SS MK IV viper WIP

IT"S DONE!!!!!!!!!
Well, here she is everyone. The first three pics where taken during the day today and then my camera's batteries died. The remaining pics were taken this evening so forgive the quality, though I think the night pictures look better because alot of the subtle touches I did are kinda of washed out in the bright daylight. Decals are by Jt Graphics...the pilots name is my sons name (Jackson Dobinson) with my call sign ("Dobber") These were applied 1 letter at a time
confused.gif
My eyes hurt again just thinking about that!! The Battlestar name, PERSEUS, was hand painted.

This Viper's story is that it was a member of one of the few remaing squadrons of MK IV's still inservice at the time of the cylon attack. These fighter were able to put up a fight against vastly superior Cylon forces, who were expecting easy prey due to the virus that crippled the rest of the colonial defences. These Vipers (that were able to survive long enough) will later form the back-bone of the COLONIES new military after the cylons left. I say this because Brother Cavel said the Cylons left the colonies for other purposes and it would be a safe assumtion that some resistance groups where able to survive and hide the remaing MK IV's for later use.

Anyway, here are the pictures!
