Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)
Not sure if this is old news, but Gawker has some apparent
leaked requirements for Spidey's movie portrayal between Sony and Marvel.
Although I'm not sure where Gawker gets their "Spidey can't be black" from (it only says that PETER has to be Caucasian), and I don't exactly agree with their interpretation of the requirements, either.
Spider-Man Can't Be Gay or Black
Gawker's interpretation of the list is awful and the writer clearly has no understanding of the character nor his comic lore. Yes, Peter Parker is a dweeb and though Spider-Man is awesome & cool, he is also at times a dork as he is after all an extension of Parker's personality.
And it's that underdog aspect of Peter/Spider-Man's character that has appealed to fans for so many years. And though I have no qualms about it, Spider-Man doesn't do recreational drugs, get over it.
He says "Why are the Spider-Man movies so bad?" Gee, Raimi's two Spidey movies are pretty damn good, especially the second one. Even the first Amazing Spider-Man has its share of merits.
Also no where in the list of character traits for Spider-Man it's mentioned that Spider-Man has be to white or that he can't be black. But Peter is white and heterosexual.
They stated "Spider-Man is not a homosexual (unless Marvel has portrayed that alter ego as a homosexual)".
These Spider-Man traits are not just confined to Peter, but to other possible alternative Spider-Man characters if they choose to explore that in the future. So like Miles Morales they can choose to introduce a Spider-Man with another alter ego having a different ethnicity or sexuality especially if they have done so in the comics too.
For Peter's possible love interest dynamic to work with his known supporting characters, him being heterosexual comes into play and is vital. Whether it's the early days with Betty Brant, Liz Allan or the more known Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson or even Felicia Hardy.
This list was given to Sony in 2011 and is still very much applicable for any current movie adaptation of the character.
The one thing that is odd in the list is "Peter gains his powers while attending either middle school or college". Most iterations of the character show him gaining his powers during high school. The only reason they could mention college is if they want to eliminate the origin story phase during high school, but this is about the time he gained his powers, so origin during college again seems puzzling.
