Spider-Man: Homecoming

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

It's not the same character though isn't it? Just because they have the same name, powers and family doesn't mean they have to be identical. Sure in the grand scheme of things they are the same but what can be minutia to an outsider is huge to an insider. If we're so on board with this reboot besides little details like who is behind the Spider-Man's mask then why can't we be okay with things being retread, more often (the being okay with, not the retreading)? I want to keep seeing the Peters as well as the Miguels and Miless (indecisive on plurals) and each time improving upon them so they might as well be different characters but we don't have to relearn everything. From this point forward I don't think there should be any more origins but "a Peter that had no friends or partners, with a dead May and a Living Ben &/or smart enough to immediately gain the peoples trust, be smarter with his identity or even capitalise on his powers and ingenuity so he and his family can immediately be better off" would be reasons for another reboot or alternate storyline. Especially since Spidey is so alternate universe centric, I don't see the problem with having two Peter's on the Big Screen at the same time in separate films.

As long as he makes his own costume and has the same or less of the same power's I'm okay. If he won't have raised webbing then he might as well have engraved or no webbing. I'm very happy with the idea of a costume peter could make and afford but it still needs to look like effort has been put into it. I just don't like the idea of it looking like it were printed or drawn on. I suppose it'd be interesting if it were flat but made of a different material from the rest of the suit.

As long as we still get the occasional movie I'd be very down for a Spidey TV-Series to air inbetween.

At least they don't intend to retread the origin story. As long as they're picking up with an already established Spider-Man, it's not much different than someone new writing or drawing him in the comics, or reading Spectacular Spider-Man VS Amazing Spider-Man. He's certainly strong enough to handle multiple interpretations on screen, as long as they don't keep trying to tell the same story.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

I'm not really on-board with this reboot...but since Sony wants to keep doing it I hope they get it right this time. Retread is not good...this is the same Spider-man who loses his Uncle Ben, if Gwen is around he loses her, if Osborn is around they become mortal enemies, etc. etc...

Honestly, I

Even though they are the same characters, regardless of reboots the great thing about the movies is that there are so many comic story’s, not to use necessarily, but to improve and change. Contrary to popular belief maybe the key to making all of this good and acceptable would be to disrespect the source material. I am repeating myself. probably after already having repeated myself, but if Oscorp never existed or if it were Mary Jane who died and the comic lovers could be okay with that then it wouldn’t be so difficult to make these unique and good at the same time. I’ve said some about Marvel’s constrictive style but with the new characters and laws that have started appearing since Age of Ultron it seems they are willing to broaden their atmosphere hopefully meaning they can broaden the kind of development and origins they allow.

Wow, it can blow your mind when you realize a person has aged into a traditional role.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

My friend is unpleased with her casting, but I'm not sure why. I haven't seen anything she's been in, so my only assumption would be that it's due to how young she is/looks. Obviously, character age =/= actor/ess age, but let's see...

Holland is 19, and looks young, so we're probably getting high school-aged Peter, not college-aged Peter, which could put him as young as 15. Tomei is 50, so we'll stick with that as May's age at the moment. If Peter is in high school, then May would have been 32-35 when he was born. Now, we know that Ben Parker was Richard Parker's (Peter's dad) "much older" brother (at least according to the comics), so we can probably assume that May was around the same age as Ben. Since Richard was a decorated soldier, and Mary a CIA analyst, they likely weren't just out of college-ish when Peter was born, so that would have to put them in their upper 20s, which still could work, if "much older" is in the 5-10 year range.

It's still a younger appearance than we're used to for May (but they can do wonders with makeup), but it's not out of the possibilities for proper ages.

(and huh, looking up character stuff on Wikipedia, I never knew that Peter's parents new Wolverine...)

I'm still waiting for the Tony Stark-Aunt May memes. C'mon internet, don't let me down!

They were apparently in two movies together, so that's double the meme-ability.

[edit]
Oh crap, Odin was in one of them, too!

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

Interesting casting, but it makes sense if they are going the Ultimate route with this. May was always kickboxing or skydiving in that so it'll be cool to see a less elderly take on the role.

The movie Aunt Mays I very much prefer to the 60s comic Aunt May. All I care about casting wise is JK Simmons always Playing J. Jonah Jameson.

Forever. He's wasting his talents on Ultimate Spider-Man though.

He is the yellow MnM but at least he can share that with Billy West.

The Actor to Play Spidey is always one of the least interesting. JK Simmons, Bruce Campbell, Rosemary Harris, Emma Stone, Sally Field are all better. The only actors that were outshined by the Spider-Actors are Chris cooper, kirsten Dunst and James Franco but that's just because of the way their characters were written and has nothing to do with their acting abilities.

Oh. All the villains are better besides Topher Grace and maybe Jamie Foxx and the Daily Bugle employees are great too.

it's interesting to me how many people think Peter is going to be unmasked in this movie. Personally I don't see the point other than to match the comic event, but that had years of history behind it, with Peter very closely guarding his secret, so it actually had an impact. Of course they could end up doing it, and it's not like I would be mad or anything, it just seems out of place.

Re: New Spider-Man Movie in MCU (July 28, 2017)

Is it because the film's are titled Avengers that they generally feel worse than the focused on one character films or is it because there are many characters. I'm really scared. It's my most anticipated film for as far as I've looked ahead but Marvel films have become unnaturally expositiony. I know it's just a knit pick but I'm a lot more scared for all the major properties than I am the obscure ones.

Give it about 2 more reboots, and Uncle Ben & Aunt May can be played by Tobey Maguire & Kirstin Dunst.
