Spider-Man: Homecoming

I made sure to double check this just to make sure my memory of it was correct.

Unless something else changed in the last few months, since i havn't really been following it, is this no longer true?

http://www.cinemablend.com/news/154...ya-playing-mary-jane-in-spider-man-homecoming

It never was true. It's a rumor... nothing's been confirmed. She's still listed as playing "Michelle." She told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie which is exciting.”

The girl in the trailer is playing Liz Allan - who first appeared in Spider-Man #4 and was a minor love interest for Spider-Man and Flash Thompson. She was also a white girl - as was just about everyone in 1960s comics... the world has come along way since then.

Surprised at how much I liked the Vulture's suit/helmet. They made him look like a futuristic jet pilot but he still mostly looked like the Vulture.

never really was a fan of spiderman, and even i'm getting tired of all these spiderman reboots.

ashamed also amy pascal's name is even attached to this.

and hate the idea of a black mary jane. would have been more fun to make a new character. maybe a rival for mary jane who has the hots for peter but to afraid to admit it.

That said, I'll still probably go see this one just because it's more part of marvel proper this time around.

Do you like anything? Every single post I see you make about any film is oozing with negativity.

And the positive stuff i post largely gets ignored.

posted a whole reboot positivity thread. 0 posts.

don't like it, don't respond to it or put me on ignore. i don't care.

Im still on the fence about this, while I liked some of the things (vulture design, visuals) not stoked about the "no punching" thing, too much high school stuff, and a LOT Of RDJ/IM. The last shot was rad though. Im tired of seeing Peter in high school, all the exciting stories(Im a die hard spidey fan) are after high school, when he is in his mid 20's. Granted, it is Marvel, but Im not as excited as I should be.

And the teaser is obviously before civil war, if you noticed the janky, cobbled together webshooters. This will most likely jump from pre civil war, to post pretty quickly. I just hope he does some awesome acrobatics, shows off his strength, and uses his webs alot. Also, Michael Keaton sounds pretty menacing, I hope he doesnt stick around the school a lot though.

maybe because this is the third reboot in ten years ? :)

Oops, being negative again. I guess i should be praising that they didn't bother to get it right the first 5 times.

About the "no punching" -- I always felt Spidey's fighting style was evasive and defensive. With his spider sense, he can almost dodge anything. With the web shooters, he can neutralize threats very quickly without injuring them. He almost rarely needs to punch anybody. And in the MCU, they've made him super strong. He caught Bucky's punch like it was nothing. In the trailer, he does the same to the ATM robbers and throws them with ease. If he's that strong, a punch would be devastating. That's why you couldn't let the Hulk 'fight crime' as he'd destroy everyone and everything around him. Peter is more accurate and delicate and he takes his power very seriously and with responsibility. He almost sees everything in slow motion thanks to his senses and because of it, he rarely needs to punch.

So I don't see it as an issue. I'm sure we'll see him on the offensive as different Villains test his restraint.

But this isn't true. The original trilogy was good and especially true for the time. The first reboot had it's issues at the height of Sony's incompetence, but it also had it's moments of quality Spider-Man.

Maybe getting right wasn't the proper phrase. at least as far as the first series went that i guess ran it's course naturally.
I kind of liked the first of the latest reboot. but skipped the second one. I also didn't like how the actor playing spiderman dissed a kid at an awards show (If i'm remembering properly).

but this is the third variation of spiderman. and that might account for the wearing out it's welcome feeling.

how is the 3rd reboot in ten years? The amazing spidey movies were the 1st reboot from the raimi movies, and now this one. my limited ability to count shows that as 2.

But, it's not. the Raimi film came out in 2002 (and the last in 2007).
The Amazing Spider-Man came out in 2012 (and 2 in 2014).

Arguably and comparatively speaking...

Keaton Batman came out in 1989.
Rebooted in 1995 with Kilmer.
Then again in 1997 with Clooney.
Rebooted in 2005 with Bale.
Rebooted in 2016 with Affleck.

Superman...
Survived similar reinventions...
Reeve as late as 1987 in Superman IV.
Lois & Clark 1993-1997
Smallville 2001-2011
Superman Returns 2006
Man of Steel 2013

Yes, it's been a very short time between Spider-Man's latest reboot. But, to says it's the third reboot within ten years isn't quite true.

I'll even say that they don't need to do yet another origin story. Avoid this at all costs - yes, you have to mention it - but, keep it brief. Give us quality and the rest shouldn't matter.

While that is a good explanation, he says he always pulls his punches in the comics for reasons why you stated. However, upon reading up on it, which I shouldnt have done, but too late now, is that they did that on purpose to "tone down the violence to appeal to more of a kid friendly audience". Thats why Im worried about Disney, they are going to tone down everything...Which is a bummer. I guess I still have the 90's cartoons bad taste in my mouth. Well yeah, hulk doesnt have a reason to fight crime, and he isnt that type of character. The raimi trilogy had no problem with that. Hell, that was one of my beefs with Doc Ock, he took a spidey shot to the face that should of knocked him out cold. But he is different, because he can actually deflect spideys punches and nullify his range, so he shouldnt have got hit in the first place. Hell, in the comics, peter almost quits being spider man because doc ock beats him so soundly. Tosses him out like trash if I remember correctly. Hopefully he saves his punches for the vulture.

Edit: I wouldnt call the Val kilmer and Clooney Batmans as reboots, they are in the same timeline, and follow the burton movies. They just completely shifted tone with a different actor. Obviously the Bale batman movies were a reboot. Just my 2 cents.

OK, ok....I concede on the error :).
Uncle!.......no, wait, best not use that phrase around spidey.
