Spider-Man 4 dropped, franchise being rebooted

According to this article, Michael Bay has expressed interest in directing. Great, now Spider-Man will shoot explosions out of his wrist instead of webbing.

It also mentions that they already had a contingency script, which makes me think they were ready to pull the plug quite some time ago.

Correction: he will shoot robots out of his wrists which then explode after doing a minstrel show.

:cry Say it isn't so.

However, I support a reboot. When the first came out I was hoping that Peter would have been a little bit younger. sophomore not a graduating senior.
I am not a classic spidey comic reader, but I appreciate the first 2 flicks. The third was a mess and I honestly have been hoping that 4 would be tossed into the bin. :thumbsup

I wonder how they'll do the new suit, and if he'll go back to using his scientific knowledge to build his web shooters like the original story, or stick with the organic web from his wrists.

Terrible TERRIBLE news.
So instead of waiting for quality, they want to rush and get thier money.
I'm so sick of seeing reboots. I think this is going to **** a lot of people off.
Michael Bay needs to stay far away from this. We don't need to see military vehicles explosions and Megan Fox's boobs in Spider-man.

I guess you wouldn't like seeing a movie based off of Marvel Transformer toys then? ;) (me neither!)

Michael Bay would likely cast an explosion as Spider-Man and Megan Fox's chest as Mary Jane.

I know that Spider-man was doing the high-school thing long before Twilight but does it sound to anybody else exactly like what they're going for here? A bunch of angsty teenagers that must deal with odd abilities while seeking true love amid the pressures of high school... I wonder if Spider-Man will sparkle in the sunlight? :p

I'll have to wait and see. My kneejerk impression is that it sounds like Avi probably just stonewalled Raimi until he caved so that he and Laura Ziskin (sp?) wouldn't look like the bad guys here.

That's funny, because I bet they are talking to Tyler Lautner's agent right this second.

yeah Marvel are notorious for being the biggest a-holes to deal with. Look at how they treated Favs after Iron Man, Terrance Howard, Mickey Rourk, Sam Jackson - they got too powerful too fast. Sam is the latest victim and look how much money he made for them.

I've liked some of the recent reboots. Punisher: War Zone and the Hulk to name a couple. But that's because the first two weren't very good nor true to their roots. Yeah, Raimi changed some canon, but the films (1 & 2) were fun. I think there maybe some animosity between the two sides here, moreso than what's been said.

OMG!! War Zone was absolute garbage!!! Worst movie I ever seen in my life!!!

......As long as they don't try to turn it into "Spider-Man: Twilight" which is what the press release makes it sound like.

I thought the same thing.
They are looking to tap into that highly profitable and exploitable youth demographic is my bet.

CRAP!!!!! That is terrible.

I don't think I could stand a reboot. They need to continue it or something. I'm tired of reboots so close together in time from when a previous version was out.

They better make some good decisions on this because I will be done with Spider-man.

Number 3 was not too great, but I really enjoyed the other two and would have just hoped they stopped dorking around and make up for #3 by making a very good #4 with Carnage or something. The whole thought of a whole redux just doesn't appeal to me. They had the look down perfect on this character. They just needed a better story.

OMG, I just had a terrifying thought....A reboot also means - A REDESIGNED COSTUME!

With Michael Bay at the helm, Spiderman's costume will probably end up looking like a Robotech mech suit.

Let's hope they get back to the energetic, sarcastic and wise-cracking web slinger from the comics; Maguires spidey had little to no humor.

I couldn't disagree with this more.
I think there was too much humor. In fact, I would remove almost all the humor from these kinds of movies. The words corny, hokey, come to mind.
Less comic bookish, and more realistic. No more 'wtf?' moments.
The Dark Knight set the new standard.
I say reboot everything and do it just like TDK.

.

That wouldn't be Spider-Man at all. He was a wise-cracking kid for a long time in the comic, if they set it in high school, like they say they are then that is what he should be. Batman and Spider-Man are as far apart as you can get.
