Agreed. Would like to see that "Sony press release".
I wish it were so, but its already been announced in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

According to this article, Michael Bay has expressed interest in directing. Great, now Spider-Man will shoot explosions out of his wrist instead of webbing.
It also mentions that they already had a contingency script, which makes me think they were ready to pull the plug quite some time ago.

I don't consider Nolan's Batman as reboots.
I never considered the previous films as true Batman films myself.
Mask of the Phantasm being the exception.
Terrible TERRIBLE news.
So instead of waiting for quality, they want to rush and get thier money.
I'm so sick of seeing reboots. I think this is going to **** a lot of people off.
Michael Bay needs to stay far away from this. We don't need to see military vehicles explosions and Megan Fox's boobs in Spider-man.
I know that Spider-man was doing the high-school thing long before Twilight but does it sound to anybody else exactly like what they're going for here? A bunch of angsty teenagers that must deal with odd abilities while seeking true love amid the pressures of high school... I wonder if Spider-Man will sparkle in the sunlight?![]()
Michael Bay would likely cast an explosion as Spider-Man and Megan Fox's chest as Mary Jane.

That's funny, because I bet they are talking to Tyler Lautner's agent right this second.
I've liked some of the recent reboots. Punisher: War Zone and the Hulk to name a couple. But that's because the first two weren't very good nor true to their roots. Yeah, Raimi changed some canon, but the films (1 & 2) were fun. I think there maybe some animosity between the two sides here, moreso than what's been said.
......As long as they don't try to turn it into "Spider-Man: Twilight" which is what the press release makes it sound like.
Let's hope they get back to the energetic, sarcastic and wise-cracking web slinger from the comics; Maguires spidey had little to no humor.
