you know that sounds like a great and very cheap idea, definitly try it out an post some pictures. The only few problems i can see in useing the idea though is 1 what are you gonna do with all the small poles that are used to open and close an umbrella, and 2 closeing the spear back up would have to be done by hand. But definitly for someone like me who has no mechanicle or construction abilities, definitly a whole lot easier to construct heh.

the umbrella idea didnt really work out to good. i have been working on this and i tried using pullies and wires and that worked but it bunched up in the tubes. so i then tried something new i went to wallmart got two golf ball retrievers that extend 16 feet each from 2 feet took then apart used the last three of the pole took a umbrella apart and cut the spring into 2_ 3 inch sections and put them into the cylinders of the golf retriever glued the golf retriever back together and put some clips on it to hold the poles in place but i got bored with it and started the animatronics of the canon ill come back to it later but r/d is expensive around christmas

cool. i just got a response on another topic to check out car antennas, or apparently as the british say, "ariels". i bet you could base something off of an umbrella mechanism too.
