Space Paranoids (Tron) Barcade - RaspberryPi Mame

Feels like I have a drawer full of RasberryPis and thought it would be fun to do a Tron-themed Barcade.

First I created a mini mockup using foam board.

Went old school and used craft paper to create scale drawings and control panel layouts.

Created a physical mock up of the control box to see how the button layout felt. Didn’t love it.

I’m using an old 3:4 flatscreen monitor for the screen, so need to scale everything to fit it.

Again, used foam board to creat a full-scale mock-up. Adjusted the button layout on the control panel.

Time to star cutting wood. The cabinet is a combination of 3/4 and 1/2 inch plywood. The control box is a separate unit that can be removed and hooked up directly to any monitor/tv via HDMI.

Built the monitor brackets and did a test fit.

Time to prime!

To quote AC/DC, time to "Paint it Black"...

And now for the pinstripes.

I'm liking it! I did the fade from red to black by hand, lots of paint blending till I was happy with the transition.

Did a little cleanup on the striping.

Control box detailed and buttons installed (wiring is still pending). Wiring the marquee lighting.

Created and added decals to the sides and wired up the buttons.
