I thought last nights episode was good but not great. I found it very predictable. Although I'm glad Tara is gone, now they just need to get rid of Gemma since she is really the only annoying cast member left imo
While I'd normally be tempted to claim this is all stunt casting, I don't think it really is. The Venus Van Damme storyline was actually fairly interesting, and Walton Goggins did a terrific job in the role. Courtney Love has proven herself to be a capable actress in the past, and I could see her fitting into this world. I'm less sanguine on Marilyn Manson being involved, but who knows. It might just be a one-off episode for him, or a 2-ep arc. Regardless, I'm pleased to see that this is the final season, and I hope they're writing the show to wrap up effectively (although I doubt it'll end happily).
I'm sad to see this show come to an end, but I do think they're stopping at the right time as there really wasn't anywhere left to go after everything that's happened over the past 7 seasons. It's amazing to go back and look at all the characters from the first season and realize that basically none of them are left now. You've really only got Jax, Chibs and Tig.....everyone else is dead! I didn't think any show would ever kill off more main characters than The Sopranos, but SoA has eclipsed their body count by leaps and bounds. I don't know how Sutter is going to wrap this whole thing up, but I really do think Jax has to die. I just can't see any scenario where he lives after all the horrific stuff he's done, especially this season.
I think it'll end with a flash forward of Abel reading a journal from Jax. The son repeating the father's mistakes, etc.
I hope Kurt Sutter eventually does the prequel show "The First Nine" he's talked about that tells the story of how John Teller formed SAMCRO.
