Sons of Anarchy

So Pope (played Michael in LOST) gets out of the car and I call out, "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalt!"

It was completely involuntary.

The tension between Tara and Gemma is some of my favorite in the show. Clay is so obnoxious; such a self-centered baby.

But that scene with Tigs daughter - I'm so glad I couldnt wait for the DVR and had spoilers from another board so I knew to get ready and fast forwarded through it. Even fast without sound, that was really, really awful.

The awesome plot twists and authentic characters are not worth that sort of content for me... It looks like more of the same next week calling for the death of someone's son? I don't know, I might not be able to stomach it if this continues. :(

PS: Another thing that feels different is that before it seemed like there were more situations where you could sympathize with the difficulty of the decisions the characters were in - figuring out the 'right' thing to do meant evaluating loyalties and safety and long term stability of the club. Seeing them try to balance that and figure out the best decision was compelling.

Now it's like most of them are just self-centered reactionaries and it's about watching if they're going to be able to lie or kill their way out of the consequences of their really bad decisions.

I enjoyed the premier, but a few things bugged me.

When Clay (the new Piney complete with oxygen tank) was weaving a whole new lie for the club to swallow, my first thought was "Are these guys that dumb? Really? They just believe whatever they are told without question?" Everybody is lying to someone in some way, and at some point even the dullest spoon in the drawer says "Hey . . . wait a second."

And is Gemma really going to bring her son to a place where she had a drunken orgy she can't remember? Just out of the blue? Seems to me this club would have a safe house or 2 of their own. Heck, just go and hide out with a different chapter. But some strangers place?

On the cool side, new cast member Chris Browning is a friend of a friend. He's had small but solid roles in flicks like Book of Eli (the guy who got his hand chopped off), 3:10 to Yuma (burned in the stagecoach), and Dark Country. So cool to see him on the show. He's a perfect fit.

The scene with Tig and his daughter was one of the best in the show so far. Too bad you had to fast forward Guri. Kim Coates was fantastic! But yeah, it was disturbing as all get out. Hard to watch.

That's cool about your friend there Noeland. He did look like a good addition. Hope for his sake he doesn't just end up a redshirt.

I totally agree about Clay - if the guys are so blind that they buy his BS, then they get what's coming to them for it. As awful as it was what happened to Tigs daughter, he's a total tool and I felt bad for her, but not him. Not at all.

As far as Gemma goes - I think she did it not because she trusts the guy so much but because it was her only way to get Jax away from Tara. Did you see the look she gave Tara when she was leaving with them?

She's totally gone off the deep end as far as thinking about the safety and welfare of the family, like she claims. Just like Clay last season, she wants to be in control at all costs. Because she's a woman, that means controlling the man who is in control - Jax. Again, I feel sorry for the kids involved but none of the adults. I really don't care what happens to her anymore. I used to see her as this great, strong, mother figure that was taking care of them all - she's not that at all.

Clay saying he'll keep her secret about her involvement in JD's murder was more spin from him to win her sympathy- he'll drop that info as soon as there is a pay off for him, I have NO doubts.

If Tara was smart, she'd take those boys and get out of Charming. But even though she's the smartest one on the show, she's not smart enough to do that.

I am not to proud to say I cried watching tonight's episode

R.I.P. Opie Winston, may you be in heaven with JT and Piney drinking a beer at the table.

Opie was the best, I always considered myself to be the most like him. His pure goodness in a evil world. Opie's Loyalty above all to his closest friend and brother Jax. If anyone would make such a sacrifice for a friend it would be Opie.

However I still think it would it of been great to keep him alive to end SOA exactly like hamlet where Jax would not let Opie "fall on his sword" Then end it where you see Opie becoming a writer like Jax and JT and writing the whole story of Jax and the SOA. Oh well it will be definitely different now. Either way I am extremely sad to see Opie go.

I'm not so sure I want keep watching, now. :thumbsdown

I can't believe what happened to Opie. He is my favorite character, and the most badass Son of all. After all he went through to just have that happen makes me sick. That was not at all how Opie should have been treated.

Oh, and that head Guard from solitary is about to feel some real pain.

That was not at all how he should have left us.

That head Guard from solitary is about to feel some real pain.

How was it not how he(Opie) should of left us. He heard what the head guard's plan was and when Jax had to choose between loyalty to his club and his family, because you know if Jax chose anyone it would be himself. Opie also realized this and then made the choice for him by head butting the guard thus making the head guard chose Opie who went into the battle. In this way Opie basically jumped on a live grenade to not only save his club but his best friend and brother Jax from having to making 1 of the hardest choices of his life, and something Jax may regret later, if he did not chose himself.

However do not get me wrong I think it was a bad call for Sutter to kill off Opie, and will probably hear a lot of static over it. However now that is done, I am glad at the way he went out and something I can definitely see myself doing to save a good friend or two if in the same shoes. It will be interesting to see if they bring Opie back as a ghost or in a dream still trying to keep Jax's morale compass pointed north

I am surprised at how emotionally attached I am to this show. I decided to wait till today to watch it and go visit my mom who is A big SOA fan and she had it DVR'd. We sat here and watched it over a cup of coffee and now I am shocked and saddened at the same time. She has tears flowing and I'm just gut wrenched.

R.I.P

You make a good point. I just hoped it would have happened a bit more honorably and ceremoniously. I understand that is just my opinion though, and most likely hugely influenced by my love for that particular character.

Have to admit, the episode really got me. I was not expecting to feel it in my gut the way I did. Whatever issues I had last week, this week was pure effective storytelling. It made me think of the last few episodes of The Shield, and the brutal choices the characters made.

The Opie thing was awful. I think it's going to really change Jax even more... I don't see him following in his dad's direction anymore but turning into a Clay. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't know if this show has the chops to redeem anyone.

What was up at the end, did Clay turn the brothel in or something, is that why they got busted? Or maybe the girl who Gemma beat up?

Tara is getting pretty scary, but she needs to be and it's over her kids, so that's good.

I hear you and agree completely. My 1st thought was how I will never watch SOA again and how
Opie dying
was the stupidest decision ever. I agree the death of this man should not of happened and this is also hugely influenced by my love and how much I considered myself to be similar to him in every way. However after putting my feelings aside for a minute I realized how this event will probably forever change Jax's morale compass and make him every more focused on getting the club into legit business. Still I think this was a man everyone watching could either relate to or loved, so we are all very sad or upset at the writers do something like this.

I still think Sutter made the wrong call, but now that is it done it will be interesting to see how this even changes Jax if it pushes his morale compass more North and he continues pushing to get the club out of guns, or if his morale compass is changed so much he starts to become clay.

I disagree, I see this event changing Jax forever. This event will change him so that he will realize how great a cost it was to keep Clay alive, and the price of SAMCRO being in the gun trade. Jax will now heavily push to get the Sons out of drugs and all guns as soon as he can, and will continue pushing this subject till he is finally able to in the final season. In this way Jax will have earned the redemption of both JT and Piney but also Opie. Jax will be using this event as major leverage as to how much blood the gun trade has cost SAMCRO.

I hope you are right.

Haha! I wouldn't do that... as with many predictions I make, I am not going to celebrate being right about something I don't want to happen. :p
