Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit . Suit Display Done !!

Re: Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit .

Wasn't sure if I should put it in here or the run-thread, but I wanted to get some opinions from others on some of the stuff below.

1) Anyone know how stretchy the silver suit will be? It appears the chainmail suit is pretty stretchy based on some of the videos Masked Rider has shown, was wondering if the same was true for the silver suit or does that make it less stretchy?
2) What are the best kind of shoes to use for this..Any good resources on how to get a shoe in there properly?
3) For those that plan on using muscle suits underneath, are you going to place it underneath the silver suit or is the muscle suit going to be your silver suit
4) Anybody know if there are alternate ways of putting the body armor on other than glue?
5) Some of us will have to cut the armor pieces to fit right. I guess this will be an unknown on proper areas to cut off until some of us actually try this... any thoughts on this?

Hmm...... i think its better to post this to the run thread ...:D

Anyway , ill try my best to show u and answer all your question as well .
My silver Undersuit is a 4 way stretch and its very stretchy , about same as lycra . But the material that i choose is quite thick as well due to the quality of the layer of shinny silver surface . I have another silver suit material which more thinner than this , but after stretch alot , it will damage the silver surface layer . So i rather choose this thick one . Also when it sewn together with the blue chainmail suit , both material combined and become more durable and quality suits .

About the shoe . I sewn zip at both side of the boots , and the foots area sewn it like shoe shape , so that allow me to insert the shoe inside than glue a layer of out sole . Here are the shoe that i will choose to put inside : First pics was the shoe that used on the Spiderman movie suit . 2nd and 3rd pic , shoes that i found online . Its men casual wear shoe .

The better way is to glue the armor pieces direct to the suit , some parts may work with Velcro , but im afraid it will not look that good as my armor parts not as thin layer and soft as urethane . So it depends on body height and size , so with correct adjustment on the wearer's body to glue down , it will look as perfect . Some pics of my slim and short mannequin to display this suit . This mannequin was less than 6 foot . My buddy created all the armor parts based on a 6' tall of mannequin body . Which means my armor parts shall fit from 6' and above by just connecting all pieces together . So for the person body less than 6 foot , same as my mannequin display height . Some parts need to re adjust or just trim off some parts and re connect it . Here are some pics , as u can see the waist armor i d idnt connect it to the place , but adjust it abit higher . Also u can see the belt buckle , i may need to trim it and place it higher .

Yes, there is. Go to Classified->Project Runs. If you dont see it, search for Man of Steel

Re: Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit .

Thanks for the explanation, Masked Rider. Glad to hear the undersuit is stretchy too as it gives us some wiggle-room when it comes to gaining/losing weight over time. I may copy/paste this post to the run thread so others who are getting one can see (in case they stopped following this one).

Re: Some Recent work on MAN OF STEEL Movie accurate suit .

Leslee shouldn't the bottom of the boot be flat and not have the chain mail pattern? I can't recall from the scene where we see the close up of the boots when he's walking on the snow in the film, but I don't remember it being there.

Also a question on trimming the armor pieces: wouldn't some of them not line up properly after trimming? I'm afraid that since they connect like joints/puzzle pieces that trimming some off the ends would cause them to be misaligned or rather the transition from one piece to the next wouldn't look as neat. Any way around this?

Looking good regardless.

The chain mail pattern isn't on the sole of the movie costume, but I think this build is absolutely fantastic either way. The soles actually had a really unique pattern though it's never seen in the film. I'll see if I can dig up the photo

Edit: I just read the reason you made the boots that way, very clever

Edit: Here's that photo

They haven't added the soles yet, which will be flat. Since the boot fabric is sewn as a complete unit, the chainmail pattern is everywhere until the soles are added. This construction is the same way the screen-used suit was built, though it might have only have a seam allowance that went under the edge of the sole instead of a full sock, but the principle is the same.

Trimming pieces will always result in some inconsistencies, that's the nature of the process. You'll have to accept that or start your own personal build from scratch. The only way to get a suit to fit you perfectly would be to do a full body scan and remodel the 3D files to fit the new contours and dimensions, and print and cast a new set for every single person, which would be ridiculous and prohibitively expensive.

Great work here, maskedrider, though I would re-iterate that the chainmail on the boots is dark grey, not red.

Thinking that if there is not going to be an option to do the chainmail in that color, maybe carefully dry brushing some color on the texture might achieve a similar effect?

Possibly, sure. You'd need a color that can adhere to the raised detailing, though, which would be tough since it's silicone.

No bro , i noticed on that scene too as the sole was in red color which i believed its also a piece printed with the 3D armor as well..... For my suit's boot , i will need to glue the sole on , not sure i can find a red one :unsure . Also i made this because if i cant find the red sole , i might just insert a shoe in the boots and the bottom of the shoe still red with chainmal . ;)

For the armor trimming , i believed that it can fit a standard body , and only some thin area need to be take care of , just trim it in shape and connect to another piece.

Thanks very much bro on your explanation , always waiting for u to back up on me ...... :D . As my buddy Luna said , i have been in costume making for my local TV series and commercial work , the process which we can see in most behind the scene movie , we need to cast the actor whole body and the costume only make to fit on that individual body .

Hmmmm bro , i should make u a suit as well ...:D:thumbsup

Yup , thats a pain too as im still searching for the paint that can grab on the surface of silicone . Been tested with all kinds of paint on a small fabric printed with chainmail for my S emblem , but still got issue ..... still searching ....:cry
