Like the title says I'm building one (my first Falcon BTW) and the assembly is nearing completion and I'll be moving onto the paint phase...the most important to giving life to any model. I have some old pics taken at MOM and the Star Wars to Indiana Jones book + Chronicles, but was looking for any more.....The ANH model or ESB is fine as I want to paint mine with a blend of both schemes......

The model I'm building is an old Ertl with a "falconkits.com" side panel / cockpit detail kit...it vastly improves the original model and was the way to go for about 10 years until "Finemolds" came out with their fantastic version.

I'm still hoping to raise funds to get the MR one before it sells out :confused

Haven't a clue... :p

Recommndation -- I'd pick one or the other (3' or 5')... With the effort and money put into a kit using the FalconKits, I'd think you'd want to really do it up nice, and accurate. Just my thoughts... ;)

:$ Whoops...you know, I've been following the blog, but really didn't look at the links to actual film models :$

The Falconkits stuff is nice...top notch for its day, but the Finemolds just blows the whole thing away now :( Thing about the ANH I don't like is is overall darkness compared to the ESB....maybe it's just the lighting I've seen them in....mostly the books.

I'll post pics when it's done though.....ya'll gotta promise to go easy on a first time model builder though...well first time in about 15 years :lol ........I gots paint / build skills, just haven't applied them to model building .......until now :love I gotta admit the models are as cool, if not more cool than the props.

I've been painting on this for about a day....While I don't want to take the 6 months it took me to paint my ESB Boba helmet, I want this to at least display well. My lack of enthusiasm is from how inaccurate the model is to the studio miniature. I'm keeping my chin up and powering through it to have a decent Falcon model 'til I can score an MR :love

I added some greeblies from car models I had to give it a little more dimension. I still have a looong way to go on paint, but it's turning out better than I thought it would.

I spent about 10 hours straight on her today and got it all finished on top and about 60% on bottom.

Here's the latest. Keep in mind it's my first Falcon paintjob so go easy on me :)

Whatta ya' think?

I agree- what did you use for reference and what paints/techniques? Just guessing I would say airbrush and charcoal pencil; in any case it looks great.

Thanks guys :)

I used the Star Wars>>Indiana Jones book and the above link to Jedi Dades pics for reference.

I used "Testors light aircraft gray" in spray can as a base. I did a light misting with Model Masters flat white in acrylic to tone it down. Then I used a combination of washes with acrylics and airbrush along with some plain old colored pencils, No.2 pencil for the dirt/oil streaks.

Wow. From one first-timer to another, that looks great.

That looks very cool - the paintjob is great.

What size is this model?

Thanks for the compliments :) The model is about 18" long and 12 1/2" wide....it's an old Ertl kit with the "falconkits" custom side panels and interior/cockpit.
