Some 1/4 Scale Figure Images

Hey, thought I'd show off a few photos of my 1/4 scale figure. The Star Wars figures are all Sideshow; Luke and Han are both completely repainted - In addition, the Luke is extremely modified. I used an Art Asylum Alice Cooper body and attached the Sdieshow figure's head, hand and feet to it. The body was a little too buff (as well as too tall) and required a ton of grinding and putty. I was shooting for full poseability, and had to make many compromises, mostly because the figure is super top-heavy. Still, it's not too bad - The shoulders and elbows have a full range of motion, as do the hips, but that's about it. The feet were problematic, too, because they're angled a little funny. Anyway, while I still see many, many problems, I DO like this pose better than the Sideshow pose, and I like the way the three figures look displayed together. It also drove me crazy that the wrappings on Luke's boots were so light - Don't they look better matched with his shoes?

Oh - Luke doesn't have his macrobinoculars when he's with Han and Leia, so I built this lightsaber for him - It's mostly a bic pen and a few found objects glued together and painted.

The Superman figure is part of a project Chris King (CKing) put together. I assembled and painted the statue and built the base. The sculpt is just a little off - It's like an itch I can't scratch. I think I've repainted it about 6 times.

Anyway, interested in your thoughts.

Just for kicks, here's a few pictures of an unmodified Sideshow Luke figure...

Looks good. I still think the face looks a little funny, but you've done a beautiful job with it.

I really had trouble with the eyes - These look too big, but I overlayed a photo, and diameterwise, they're right on. I think maybe they're open just a little too wide...

NICE...

The Luke is pretty much spot on too, however, I would do something to rest his hand on his leg... There's a lot of space that makes him look like his hand is levitating....

That's a good point - He's supposed to look like he's reaching for his saber, and that kind of comes across in person, if not on film. I wish I had a different set of hands for him, or that I could sculpt a set myself...

Well, Supes could look better. I had Camper paint mine and the sculpt is perfect IMO. It looks VERY realistic too. You need to position the suit better too.

Awesome job JeffC and CKING.

Here is mine:

As for the Sideshow repaints, can you post some more pics? I love how you have them all on one base and I am tempted to do the same at some point.

Good to see a 1/4 collector.

:)

Not sure what's wrong with the suit position - The space between the top of the trunks and the emblem is a little short, I think - the belt is positioned as low as it'll go without showing red. As far as the face goes, I think I'm a pretty good painter: My Stuff, and I think there's a little problem with the sculpt around the eyeballs. I also think that the nose is just a little thin. Nevertheless, this statue is by FAR the best Christopher Reeve sculpt I've ever seen, and the face on yours definitely looks better than mine - maybe I'll contact this Camper fellow and see if he'll do a little touch up.

Thanks for sharing, everyone.

Anybody else got any Superman or Sideshow images?

Portrait of an obsession:

Up till 3am stripping the paint off my statue, thanks to the extremely mild criticism given here.

(And by "stripping the paint off my statue", I mean stripping the paint off my statue - It's not a euphemism for masturbation....)

sheesh

I've got to say that I love what you've done to the Sideshow 1/4 scale Luke. Very nice work.
I agree with Gruson - they do look really cool on the same base.

Hopefully you'll be satisfied with the new paintjob on your Superman when it's finished. I thought it looked pretty good but the lighting was a bit harsh in the photos.

Chris

Hey Chris,

I didn't sculpt the Superman, I just commissioned it. :p

Wonderful job on Superman Chris. Very striking likeness.

Thanks for the kind words, Chris - You're a geniunely nice guy, and you always make me feel better - especially when my neurosis and personality disorders come through.

I know I'm too sensitive to criticism, but I think it's a trait of us artists...
