Solomon Kane costume (New weapon pictures, pg2)

Re: Solomon Kane costume (New Pictures! Hat acquired!)

Little update: Boots will be here on Tuesday (I hope), so you'll get better pics of the pants with boots then.

Just ordered one shirt, cloak, belt, sash, frog, and pistol. Those will be coming....I don't know when. 2 weeks maybe, maybe more.

Crossing my fingers that I'll get someone to make the jerkin so I don't have to import another version.

Re: Solomon Kane costume (New Pictures! Hat acquired!)

Boots have arrived!

I'm quite pleased with these, they weren't ridiculously expensive, and they are pretty comfortable. Size ran a little big, but an insole in there, and they fit like a glove.

Pics are me trying them on with my pants. They work nicely, I think.

So, with that, I've pretty much rounded up everything for my costume except the jerkin/waistcoat, which I'm basically just waiting on quotes from 2 shops for. Let's just hope the one that takes the job doesn't bankrupt me.:rolleyes

Now the only real question is, what sort of facial hair do I want to attempt for the costume. :lol

Oh lordy, more photos courtesy of my friend making my sword replicas. He says he should be getting more photos of the longer blade and it's hilt tomorrow.

I think they're looking fantastic, and can't wait to get my hands on them to paint them up. I'm plenty used to making the weapons on my 2-inch Warhammer figures look realistic, but I'm not quite sure how well I'll do on life-size versions :lol

Re: Solomon Kane costume (HUGE update! Full costume photos!)

So today is a day I have been waiting for for quite some time. I've finally gotten one of my last packages in, a big box purchase of all the fiddly-bits that make the costume complete enough to wear.

I got so excited, I threw the whole thing on and snapped some webcam shots. Excuse the quality, some day soon I'll get a friend to take some real pictures in real light of the whole thing.

Last pieces that will take a bit of time are the swords and the custom-made jerkin, but I think this is looking pretty damned spiffy.

The shirt is really floppy, I didn't realize both arms would be completely lined with metal D-Rings, which makes them kind of flop over the side, since it's baggy. Maybe I'll cut the bottom and make it a bit tighter in the sleeve to keep them from doing that.

Re: Solomon Kane costume (HUGE update! Full costume photos!)

Your outfit's come along really nicely. I don't think the sleeves on the shirt will be an issue since the sleeves on the jerkin should help with that. I just watched this the other day and if I'm remembering right I think the shirt he was wearing was like a muslin color. Looked like an off shade of green in some of the scenes.

As far as the movie there's a reason it hasn't come out to the US. I didn't really think it was that great. The acting at times was pretty bad. Especially considering the casting. The editing for shots was sub par and the effects were pretty cheap looking at times. The story was pretty forgettable compared to other similar movies. It really seems like it needed more money to make a better movie out of it. I did like some of the design work in the film. Especially with the main villains design at the end of the film. In the end it felt like watching Season of the Witch as far as the quality of the movie. Seems like RE Howard stuff is getting screwed over lately. I think the new Conan movies not going to be very good either. I would say if you have to see the movie try and get it online. That's just my opinion though.

Thanks! Yes, I deviated from Screen-accurate in...well in every area, actually. While I would love to go completely accurate, the problem is, there's absolutely zero information/pictures/details about any costume pieces to be found on the internet (or so it seems), and a lot of pieces are just impossible to find approximations of. So, the shirts I decided to swap for something else. I might still pick up a light cotton shirt in some grey color to throw under the ring-shirt I have. To be exact, the movie under-shirt seems to be a heavy cotton or linen shirt in some sort of green-gray, with laces up the front. Over that is what I gather to be a multi-piece suede shirt, held together with laces, and topped with a leather waistcoat. Not easy things to find.

As far as the movie...

I liked it, though I'll agree it had it's flaws. It moves a bit slowly, but as an origin, I think it does well enough. I think Solomon's later adventures are a little too far-fetched to make good screenplays for modern audiences.

Then again, I tend to find enjoyment in movies most people think terrible. Don't ask why, I don't know.

Re: Solomon Kane costume (HUGE update! Full costume photos!)

I figure I'll bump just to make a mention of how things are going. My swords are almost done, and set to come in in a few weeks, which I look forwards to, as well as a faux-suede shirt from overseas (since apparently they only make decent LARP/Costume gear in Europe).

I did make some headway on the waistcoat, and after talking with the owner of Ravenswood Leather, he agreed to take on the job for much cheaper than the quote I had from a woman I was talking to. I have to say he's a great guy to talk to, extremely nice, and seemed very eager to take the job and make the piece perfect.

He informed me that from the pictures I sent, which were some great shots of the coat, that the garment itself was inherently flawed, and that a lot of the details seemed to have been tacked onto an existing piece as an afterthought. So after discussing some design modifications that would keep the look, but hopefully function and fit a bit better, I think it'll come out great, and I can't wait to get it.

That's all, no real picture updates. I'm still working on getting back into shape for the costume, since my job keeps me rather inactive. I'll get more pics when I get some sword updates.

Got a fresh batch of weapon shots of the almost-finished dagger. Just needs a drybrush of silver over the black, and then some weathering on the blade and hilt, and it's ready to roll.

I know it's been a while. Not much progress on my end, but the jacket I paid for is in construction and I'm having my sister help make the suede shirt.

Other than that, my swords are done. The dagger and falchion are cut to screen-accurate dimensions, the longsword is pretty much made up, in the style of the one used, but edited for stability and ease of making. All wood, hand painted, the grips are wire and leather. There's a wood and leather-wrapped scabbard for the longsword on the way.

I think they're remarkable and can't wait to swing them around.

Howdy Everyone!
I know I'm late to the Solomon Kane party here, but I stumbled upon this while trying to put together my own Solomon Kane/Puritan Witch Hunter costume. I've got the boots, gloves, sword, and shirt. But I'm wondering where is a good place to get a jerkin and the cape/cloak? Anything helps!
Thanks all!
