Re: Star Wars Anthology (Young Han Solo)
They must have seen something in this guy that perhaps we can't yet. I can't think of any actor anyway who could really come close to completely representing Ford , young replica or otherwise so I guess they're damned if they do, damned if they didn't. Either way, it was always going to be a gamble to do this type of SW movie, particularly based around such an iconic character. I hope it succeeds , just for the sake of the SW universe and the fans.
Antony physically did look the stronger choice, but if he can't carry the part for whatever reason , he can't carry it. Perhaps, given that the HS trilogy shooting might conflict with the new Indy film, Antony is the guy for Indy. God knows I would preffer to see him in a new Indy trilogy IF they are hell bent on going to do it that way. A younger Indy adventuring in that period before Raiders would be much preferable to a "rebooted" new actor set after Harrisons .
I think its going to be hard enough doing the next , given Harrisons advancing years. For me Ford will just never be beaten in this role, its an almost impossible task. Raiders is still ,decades on, hands down the best boys own adventure film ever.
That aside, I thought one of the strongest things about TFA was the success they had with the new cast. Each performance ,particularly Daisy Ridleys was enjoyable and strong and I still think her "Rey" is one of the best characters portrayals I've seen in any SW film, with only Mark H as Luke in TESB beating her.
What they will need with this film is an incredibly strong script to carry this, and one that draws the audience in, so probably a fair bit of humour as well. They botch that element up on the back of all the uncertainy over the lead actors capabilities to carry the character off then they will get a critical drubbing that will make the "Batman V Superman" negative feedback look like a mild case of moaning.
The only other reason I can think of why they are pushing this through so quickly as well is that there must be a hell of a carry over from "Rogue One" and "EPVIII" which will make shooting this highly economical. Rolling this over after EPVIII wraps should be easy. I wonder if that is why we got a complete Millenium Falcon prop built this time in EPVIII?
