SNL skewers The Hobbit

All the LOTR films are long and boring, even rewatched them recently and still felt the same way.

The Hobbit, is not boring and didnt feel long at all.

I agree, the LOTR movies are too long, and oftentimes boring. And yet, there's something magical, something mysterious about them, which compels us to watch.

The Hobbit, on the other hand, was also too long and boring, but lacked any of that magic and mystery.

The Wook

LOTR may be long, but the length is earned. Three books, three movies, very little lost in translation. The Hobbit is unearned, unecessary length. It would be like if LOTR was twelve movies or something.

The show should be 60 minutes instead of 90, the band should play once instead twice, and they should halve the time devoted to the host's monologue.

Unless the material gets better, the band should play three times to cut some of the overlong jokes. SNL is notorious for dragging a joke until it's dead.

I liked the Hobbit but think they crammed too much into it. LOTR is very self-contained where Hobbit feels like it's trying to play catch-up with LOTR.

I'm of the other mindset. When I tune into a comedy show I don't want to see a musical guest at all. Kills the flow & mood.

I would agree if SNL were any good at flow or mood anymore. Not that Hobbit was great at those things either. I still enjoyed it.

Yeah with the departure of The Lonely Island's Digital Shorts and a couple cast members the show has really been stinking lately. The last 5 shows I've seen in a row has had maybe a sketch or two that was funny, but I'm thinking of boycotting the show for a while because lately it's become a real waste of time.
