Man, she must have had to shave to pull that off...if you know what I mean. Gutsy gal to wander about in that thing!

Yep, and here she is before shaving:

:lol

Yep, Olivia Munn is definitely a very attractive lady, and has the right hair / eyes colouring to be a Slave Leia.... although she's virtually unheard off on this side of the Atlantic.

Tony, your other-half's Imperial Officer outfit is pretty-damned revealing IIRC - seems like female costumers are braver than us blokes.... I prefer to hide under lots of vacuum-formed white plastic! :$

Cheers,
John

If that's ^^^^^ the American Idol guy, he's from my neck of the woods...a lady I work with used to be a teacher and had him in her class for 7th grade.

Yowsa! Yes she is one of the top two favs of mine from the site...I didn't realize she has her own site? Cool.

Well if I saw her in person like that I would definitely have to turn up the climate control on my Vader costume to max AC. :lol

I guess it is easy for guys to think a woman would choose a costume like that just to be sexy. That is just our reaction to it. For them as someone mentioned it is more about the costume itself and the character and it just happens to be a sexy costume. I've had women react on occasion to my Vader costume in ways I wouldn't describe in polite company so I suppose it goes both ways and is just a matter of perspective. :)

OMG :confused:confused:confused OMG :confused:confused:confused thats me walking by with my Dave Dorman print in the brown tube when I was at London Celebration Europe

The question is: "Why so many 'Mystery Leias'?" and my answer is because it makes the world a better place!!!! The more mystery Leias the better! :love

Perhaps. But I think it's more than just the male "reaction to it". As someone who's pretty knowledgeable about women (no one knows what every woman is thinking - nor would I want to, but some men interact with and understand women better, like it or not), I can tell you that women think 100000x more times than men do about everything they do. And wearing an outfit like that, that makes you vulnerable, exposed, and enticing is something they all think about and weigh the consequences of.

I think it's easy for people like us who love costuming and the original source material to hope and wish and think that the girls aren't just attention hogs - that they really know the backstory and the relevance of the character and the particular costume. And I'm sure there are some who do. But it's a bit nerdy to think that even 25% of these girls nerd out like we do about the critical importance or the storyline when choosing to wear a costume.

They want to look pretty. And I'm not here to stop 'em ;)

I'm not sure how comfortable I feel about the whole "she's wearing it for attention" attitude. It feels rather like the age-old "well she deserved it because of the way she dressed" rape defense. So we should put that one to bed right away. Makes me feel a little smarmy for all of you that brought it up.:unsure

So why would a woman choose this costume??? Women like to feel sexy (men do too, we just don't admit it as often), and if you're a woman that's into playing dress up... This is about as sexy as it gets.

There's also the high percentage of them that are doing it as a treat for their geeky guys. Don't think I haven't been tempted to try to get my gf in one.

But "feeling sexy" includes "attention" as part of it, to varying degrees.

I don't think anyone said EVERY Slave Leia is doing it for attention. But I'm sure some are. Watching girls at DragonCon, Slave Leias and other costumes, certainly makes it a plausible theory. I've even heard some say they "love the attention". So I don't see any need to "put that to be right away".

Not being a Slave Leia myself :lol but a Capn Jack Sparrow, I truly do understand the "dressing for attention" angle!:rolleyes

I believe some of us dress up for the attention and nothing but the attention!!!!:lol

Thanks Darth Mule.

As a woman (note the icon) I do often, very often have to weigh up the pros and cons of wearing a costume. Regardless of how much work goes into it (and I make all my own gear, that's why I wear it- I make stuff) I know that the audience is different at each event I go to.
I love my Witchblade costume. I also love my Female Hunter costume (from Alien's Vs Predator EU) but I know when I wear them I am going to have to deal with the side effects of a.. figure revealling (if not exposing) costume.

I have a cunning plan to wear full gothic plate to a con next year just to see what the reaction might be.

Anyway, the point is I don't think anyone who chooses to wear the costume is unaware of the attention they are likely to get. It doesn't though mean that is the sole or main reason to wear it. For me I wear my costumes despite how uncomfortable I feel. It's me facing my fear. I've been the ugly duckling for so long that I never expect there to be "positive" attention to what I wear.
Also I tend to focus more on the making and geeking out over new skills than what it will be like to wear my costume. Except that I am sure it'll be critical rather than creating a wake of fanboys ;)

Would I wear the Slave Leia... I don't know... I want to make it though :)

has it ever occured to anyone that the "anonymous Leias" are just photos sent in where the webmaster could get no identifying data and so he just called them "anonymous" or if you were wearing a costume, lets say a 300 outfit at a leather bar on halloween and some dude says "hey big boy an I get your name and other identifying data so I can put you on the internet "might you say nah you can take my picture but thats it, that outfit is smokin hot on the right girls and personally I hope every hot woman on the planet decides to wear the outfit and I can dress as Jabba and I will cover their bodies with slime and...........

Does anybody have any stories to tell where people behaved indecented towards a Leia ? And I mean the fanboy crowd, not occasions at a bar or a public parade with a lot of different people ?

I have heard of situations where actors at cons were the worst when it came to hitting on female costumers.

I think that most will shy away from coming up to a costumer and hit on them. Is there any way to not look like a dork walking around and complimenting only the costumers with almost no costume on ? I think not. (Field testing that theory will be done either on the next dragon con or sdcc :p )

And btw, if there is just a forename or an alias attached to a picture, I´d still call that anonymous ;)

I think the best way to compliment is to take lots of pictures and share them with us

I don't wear my Batman suit just to get attention. I just love the suit. But one of my favorite parts is the attention I get from the opposite sex. "Can I touch your chest?" LOL
