Slave Leia resources?

Hello all! I'm looking for some good resources for building a Slave Leia outfit. The wife surprised me the other day by telling me she is making one. Right now, I'm a pretty happy geek.

I've been to leiasmetalbikini.com and while there is a plethora of great reference photos, the links for making a costume are either dead or not up to snuff. The wife, probably because she knows me so well, told me that she wants to do this as correct as she can. The biggest problem is that I am in California and she is in Kansas and she wants to get this done before I get out there in a couple of months, so I won't be able to help much and so I decided to ask for help here.

She's apparently getting help from some friends of her step-mom who are into ren faires and LARPing, I believe, and who make their own costumes for that. Hopefully that will translate into skills to make a movie accurate costume, including metal work. I just don't know where to find good directions, specs, etc. that could help her/them out.

Thanks for any and all help!

EDIT: I did a search and really didn't find much at all, though I'm not above admitting I may have missed something.

Isnt that the guy who does mostly all of them, I cant remember his name off the top of my head, but he also did Olivia Munns a few years back if i recall

That is an awful lot of money to invest in a costume that will probably be worn for less than a minute once you get home back to Kansas!!!!!:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Are you working on your Jabba costume??:eek

Money is tight with the upcoming move and considering this won't be used for cons or anything, we're thinking we'd like to save the cash and try to build it ourselves.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

Leia's Metal Bikini and Jamin are excellent resources:thumbsup!

I actually bought my bikini and then finished it. It is made from Super Sculpy. It has held up well. The fabric on the bra top is very difficult to do. Also, I'd recommend a 'tear away' skirt (so if it accidently gets stepped on the whole bottom does not get pulled off...just the fabric). :confused

Another thing to do is join the bikini builders yahoo group. Let me know if you need any advice/help.

I sent the wife a link from the Rebel Legion and in there they mentioned the Sculpy over wire method. I believe she is going to try something like that.

Is the Yahoo! group still active? In that same thread it was said that it's been rather hard to get accepted/approved. I'm going to send the wife the link just in case. Also, thanks very much for the tear away idea. I know I never would have thought of that.

Oh! One last thing: how does it work with the underwear? Are underwear used? If so, are they attached just in the front and back? I ask becauce it looks as though there are no fabric sides, just the metal oblong rings.

The yahoo group is not very active of late, but it is still there. If she has issues getting in the group I can email Keith and ask him to let her in.

The undies....I'm too modest to go without!! Some girls do a 'built in' thong. But I don't like the idea...if something happens to your bottom your TOTALLY exposed :eek I took a pair of sting bikini undies (they are a full front and back, but the sides are just elastic) and cut the sides out. In it's place I sew clear elastic. That way I have full front & back coverage in case something happens!! You can see the elastic on the sides if you look close (see pic). I'm not sure if this is a big deal to your wife or not?

Let me know if you have any more questions :cool

In my fantasies ? No, there is no underwear involved.

Yeah, I think most of them have some type of undergarment attached to the sides (the metal pieces cover the straps).

Thanks again for the help. I just sent her a link to this thread (don't know why I didn't think to do that before) and she'd also very thankful for the help.

Not to hijack the thread here... but Ember, your costumes are amazing. The Anna Valerious costume was fantastic and I thought your buckle solution to the riding boots was very clever.
