Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (Finished)

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet

Cheers man, still more to do but made a start on the horns today.

This is where I was at earlier in the day, it has since been trimmed down to be flush with the helmet and the second horn has been blocked out and shaped. I hate this part of having to match the two horns up...I forsee stress! Should have them done and textured by Monday night.

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet

I made the mold wayyyyy to heavy (the silicone is quite thick too) so I had to do a test cast using thickened resin and brushed it in (cant lift it as my back i still healing) but have gotten a test cast out to see any flaws (dont mind the tips of the cheeks the resin did not flow in properly due to human error.

Using the old horns just for pictures and will continue working on the new horns on Monday.

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

I have been lurking in the back ground on this thread and I must say I am loving it. I just restarted Skyrim and its inspired me to make some armour but not sure how I will fund all the silicone I will need for casting. I guess I will have to do one piece every 6 months or so :p Looking forward to seeing the horns in.

Wow that is Beautiful! Going to look even better when the horns are finished.

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

Thanks lads! I am really looking forward to doing the horns then doing up a cast to clean up and re mold. I am also tempted to do a more in game version by adding the dimples to it and sanding the eyes a bit so they are more accurate and not my take on them (I tend to go over board with variants :p)

Ah the silicone is not that pricey, for 90 odd quid I have enough to to the helmet and horns from MBFG / Which armor are you looking at? Am tempted to do the Iron armor to display with the helmet.

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

I am not going for a Skyrim armour but one of my own designs. It will be a highly detailed sculpt over basic peped parts. Insperation is coming from Warhammer, lineage II and anything else I can find. I like the Skyrim armour but I have always been one for over the top detailing and really want to try my clay out. I am in the middle of moulded my iron man helmet and its only cost £36 but to do a whole suit we are talking many hundreds! I am a live at home dad so cash is....well I have none really and getting theat kind money out of my wife isnt gunna happen :p

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet

you HAVE to tell me what paint you used! Ive been looking for that effect everywhere! :O

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

That is some great job you made there , Mate !
Looking forward for more helmets :D

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

Drack that armor sounds interesting! Warhammer/Skyrim mix would be a cracking suit of armor! I know what you mean on the price of silicone but sure a silicone skin and plaster mother mold even for the armor parts you could stretch out your silicone use instead of block molds.

Tarchinoko it is actually aluminum powder mixed in with the cast, painted black and lightly polished but the helmet on the left is done with Gamesworkshops paints and sponged on. You can get a very similar effect with the GW paints like Mithril Silver and Chainmaille if you rub them on with a sponge.

Thanks lads! I hope to refine the helmet and re mold it once the horns are done then re do the Iron Helmet at some stage too. Slowly learning as I go

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

Yeah now you mention it I guess the pieces don't demand such thick moulds as I have been needing for helmets. Looks like my dream suit is back in the pipe line :)

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

Thats the thinking! Looking forward to seeing a progress thread in the future.

Finally started back on the horns the other nite. Overall shape is done, just need to refine angles (such as the tips pointing in more) then smooth and texture.

This is how they started off

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (test cast done)

Thanks Pyro!

Horns are in silicone as we speak. I did not want to do the very noticeable ridges of the in game model and wanted to keep them similar to the art I was using but if they were too smooth it would not be nice. So i added small details, my texturing is not the best (still practicing) but it will do.

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (horn sculpted)

Very nice sculpt. Im a big fan of this game and you did a great job. Looking forward to seeing completed.

Re: Skyrim Ancient Nord helmet (horn sculpted)

Thanks lads!

Due to some foam which went bad the molds were ruined for the horns (got one cast and one which I was somewhat able to salvage with coats of resin but would be a bit wonky) but gives me an excuse to fix the horns as I was not happy with them and how they fit. Since these pics the white horns have been trimmed down and made a bit smoother and the grey ones have been attached properly and getting prepped for paint. Will do a thread when they are fully finished
