Sinking 1:400 Academy Titanic

I based my 1:400 scale RMS Titanic kit by Academy after the "sinking" model used in the James Cameron film. While it doesn't break in half, I think the (close to) end result is pretty good. I've been working on this project for several months now and I'm considering selling them on ebay for between $300-400 depending on the interest. I'm also considering doing a run here on the therpf at a slightly lower price:lol
I built the model out of the box save for a series of bulkheads I built inside the hull, as well as about $1 worth of pennies to act as ballast. These bulkheads allow the model to sink similar to the real Titanic.
Here's the photos of the nearly finished product:

And a few of it sinking: I also included a short clip of the float test: the one of the sinking was too large to upload from my cellphone.

ugh... don't let my wife see this, she'll get on me about finishing hers (again)

Awesome work on your model BTW :thumbsup I love what you've done with it. It's a novel idea.

Quick question: I'm planning on painting the portholes along the side of the hull. Should I paint them yellow or light blue?

Does anyone know how I can
a) waterproof oil-based paints? I accidentally used this on several railings
b) waterproof decals?

For the decals, I would overspray them with a good coat of Future floor wax (Pledge with Future shine). It's an acrylic clear coat that, when cured, will only disolve in ammonia.

The oil paints, I figure if you give them time to cure (sometimes months, depending on the manufacturer), will be naturally waterproof. If not, let them cure and spray them with Future, as well.

Hi Joey,
Thank you for your interest in my sinking Titanic model kit. There are three different Titanic models I will be producing as part of this run, as per request. 1) the 1:400 Academy Titanic which will run for about $300-400, 2) the 1:570 Revell Titanic for $100-150, and 3) the 1:600 Academy Titanic for $200-300. The set will include a fully assembled model R.M.S. Titanic model complete with waterproof enamel painting in accurate colors, specially modified with plastic watertight compartments and ballast to sink similar to the model used in "A Night to Remember" and "Titanic". (Note, this model does not break in half, it's not one of those low quality "submersible Titanics" sold on ebay for astronomical prices for the poor quality.) This is a beautiful replica ship that can be used as a centerpiece to your collection. The following youtube video belongs to Michael Fisher; this is not my model and I claim no ownership over his work. I include it only to show how my model is designed to sink. YouTube - Model Titanic Sinks 2 (Bigger model, more angles) The ship shown is a 1:350 minicraft kit, the Academy is slightly smaller but much better detailed and more durable.
