A project I didn't expect to get off the ground until after the holidays is speeding to a conclusion!
I may be done with this one by Halloween.
I got some unexpected time in the shop last night.
The upper part of baton is simple compound work, but for the bottom piece, I had to remember how to use the taper attachment on a lathe I haven't used before. I scaled the propstore "serenitymisslestick" photos (below) and trig-ged the angles. I did change the overall length because I believe the propstore photo was cropped and the overall length didn't jive with the Serenity screen caps of Simon carrying and deploying his "bouncing betty baton". The overall length of the baton part is 14-3/4 inches versus the 12-9/16 inches that the propstore photos suggested.
My next step is the creation of a fixture to bend 1/16th inch stainless welding rod for the orbital ring pieces, (four half orbits).
Also shown is the rank and Alliance symbol pin set like Simon had on his uniform.
