Silicone Caulking Tubes Mold

Too bad there weren't pics to go along with this. I'd like to know how effective this is and if many people have tried it.

i got a perfect mold the first time i did it. the next mold i may have rushed and got some airbubbles.
the third- i had air bubbles as well. luckily the bubbles can be dremmeled out later.
it works but takes longer waiting for the layers to dry. plus it wreaks to holy hell. DO IT OUTSIDE.

hey guys, thanks to daman , i tryed this, this is where i am at the moment, its drying, the silicone seemed a lilttle to
soft and tearable so im lettin the bottom air dry some more, thanks again daman !! ur da man !! :)

this is my iron man hand i didnt
sculpt the bottom as i plan to do later and attach, i just wanted to see how well this would come out first
the clay was was under all this so noo i didnt use a pan like in pic, lol

hmm were the layers too thick and couldnt cure?
i see you tried to mix in black paint to help set. but it looks like it wasnt mixed thouroughly. mix it up in a cup before you apply.
did you mist with water?
i ususally waited a couple days before demolding.

not sure ernie....

wait was there silicone underneath the sculpt? is that what didnt cure? i wouldnt know if that affects it or not. i laid layers on top of my sculpt.

hey daman, i did a few steps wrong now i see,

1 i rushed and demolded,
2 i dident mix the black though with a cup,
which is probley why the mold didnt cure, it was sticking wayy too much

but i did mist with water well lucky this stuff is cheap so ill try and try again, ill post my sculpt ina bit

also the paint needs to be water based acrylic that's what helps it cure faster.

just use the cheapo 97 cent walmart hobby paint

doesnt need to be water colors. acrylics are fine. i just meant water based vs powder or oil.

cujo----you would then cast with fiberglass or PU resin, yes

Thanks. Thinking of givng this a try, except that silicon caulk does stink. Smells like chemical bananas.

this is interesting ,is the same method used for molding a pred foot? just wondering cuz there would be two open ends if u just pour over it

The silicone method wouldn't be good for latex. If you wanted a plastic foot then thats the way to go. Your much better off with plaster(or the like) for something like a foot.

Back on track. These are pics of my 1/6th scale Mask of Anubis. I used a small tube of 'Silicone Adhesive' to cover the sculpt in a few layers to ensure it cured. This was really a test mold and I wanted to get used to the materials.
Well, got sidetracked... again.

I ended up making a mold and casting my 1/6th version.

On the right is my sclupt on the left is the first attempt to make a casting out of clay. I didn't melt it right and got mixed results, moslty bad. The mold is about a dollars worth of silicone adhesive. It is thick enough that I didn't do a mother mold. I was trying to emulate the full scale version.

I did two small pours to make this. I like this stuff. It ended up being solid because I mixed more then I inteded the first time and eded up just filling it up.
