Silent Hill: Pyramid Head

I have been visiting this forum for a while now as a guest but thought it was about time I signed up and got posting.

I know there has been a fair amount of Pyramid Head attempts is the past but I though I would chip in with my effort as well. There are better ones out there but I think some of the methods I used may be of use to someone.

I started by making the basic shape out of card photo mounting board.

Holes were cut into the side and a non-slip mat which is used for securing rugs on laminated flooring was put over the hole. The mat is made up of a tight lattice leacing lots of little hole. This meant that I could see out of it fine, but due to it being dark inside people could not see in.

I then build up the rest of the shape using more corrigated card, duct tape and little bits and pieces for the detaling.

I used a hot glue gun to attach an old workmans hard hat I had laying around to the inside so I could finally wear it properly!

(Example of the type of mat I used: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NON-SLIP-/-AN...282147&cguid=8ef2dfa211f0a0aad3a6d0c6feb4c1c2)

More detail was added before spraying with a primer and black base coat of paint.

I also started working on the great knife. I got my hands on an old umbrella with a suitable handle and removed the top leaving the handle with a length of metal coming from it. This gave the knife a good deal of strength as it was also made up of corrigated card.

The card was put into layers, lots at the top and only 2 at the bottom so that it tapered in, giving it a realistic contour.

A top coat of silver paint was added to give the fianl effect.

Painting isnt my strong suit but I was happy with the job.

Sadly my time and resources had run out so I couldnt finish the rest of the outfit off at the time but I made do with a "bloodied up" apron and overalls

It ended up being a bit of a mixture between some of the game version and the film version but I was pleased with the overall result.

I may revisit it sometime in the future and make a better costume to go with it, perhaps a muscle suit closer to the movie look.

A friend of mine also made a last minute effort at the nurse. He was pretty brave wearing it as it didnt leave much to the imagination, and it was snowing outside.

Thanks for checking this out!

Nice work! The metal effect on the pyramid-helmet (pyramet?) is very convincing.

Creepy movie too. :cool:thumbsup

I love seeing Pyramid Heads now :cool , although I'd seen the games I never bothered to watch the film until I was interested in making this helmet.

I had an attempt at a Pyramid Head helmet after a work mate asked me to make him one last year. I rushed my way through it to get it done for Halloween and I was told screen accuracy wasn't that important :thumbsup.

I did the whole same cardboard and anti slip mat method you did, but gave it a few coats of resin, and a final coat of polyester resin mixed with a little sand to give it a rough/rusted texture. This was given a black base coat and misted with silver spray paint. Then I used a wood stain over the paint to give it the rusty/mucky look. My work mate loved it, I just wish I'd spent more time and made it slightly bigger :unsure.

Thats pretty cool, Im probably going to revisit mine at some point, I think the resin is a great idea. Was there a particular resin you used?

Haha, I was about to start a thread about my in-progress Pyramid Head build! I never know what forum conventions are on things like this...do I clutter up the board with a new topic, or do I risk hijacking someone else's project? :lol

In any case, very well done! You seem to have found an elegant solution for the visibility problem - I've seen a lot of Pyramid Head cosplays where you can see right into the helmet, and it totally ruins the effect. Where did you find this miracle material?

Hey! Post your photo's here it would be nice to get everything in one place. I picked it up from a local hardware store. The rubber that I used is intended to be used as a non slip mat to put under rugs and such when used on wodden floors. You can also get them off ebay. There is a link in my previous post which I think is still running. Keep us posted on the progress!

Actually, I ended up starting my own thread. No offense. :) If you'd like to weigh in, though, I'd much appreciate it!

Is that safety mat very durable? I'm picturing it being somewhat like the liner you put inside shelves to give them more friction, and if it's like that, I'd be afraid of ripping it...but if it's heavier, maybe it's worth a try!
