SidKit Serenity Mal Gun

I was waiting for someone else to mention it. :)

I wish I had the money, I'd buy one of these kits so fast. :confused

i just have to wait till after Xmas to send it to the platers...
i noticed that the kit actually IS different in some parts than the firefly sidkit

Well, that settles any questions about QMx getting Sid to make their Serenity metal pistol. And the timing leads me to believe (shocker!) that he's recast their Mal stunt pistol.

Not that it matters, just kinda funny.

Too bad my wife won't let me have that much cash before the holiday.

Mechamaniac, I am not too sure what you mean? Are you saying that this confirms that QMx is having Sid make their replicas?

No, I'd say just the opposite. If QMx had contracted Sid for his metal Mal designs, then I doubt they would allow him to sell any on his own.

That plus the fact that Sid's Serenity version shows up two weeks after the QMx stunt Mal was released leads me to believe that Sid based his metal Serenity version off of his existing design plus the QMx stunt.

I think it was more or less proven that he based his original Mal pistol off of one of Phillippes casts.

Like I said, not that it matters as I'm not nitpicky about who recast who, but it's curious.

Well one photo from Sid's site matches a proto pic from QMX. Would seem to me this is exactly the same piece as QMX is going to offer, in kit form.

I was just going to mention the photo. Given that the QMx pistol looks exactly like Sid's Firefly pistol with some Serenity parts, I'd say it's safe to assume that he is the originator of their metal guns. I am of course not saying that he's not a recaster. As it stands QMx seems to be planning to use recast based parts for their hero pistol.

As to them allowing him to sell any, it's probably not something they know about or are allowing. Him being in Italy or wherever he is probably makes it a little more of a headache for them to crack down on him. Who knows though, being able to sell 50 might have been part of a deal or something.

Mech I think you got it wrong. Sid did do QMX's Metal Mal's. I think by emailing previous customers quietly and only offering 50 unfinished kits he is trying to make a little money. QMX's will be a plated, built, etc. version of the same kit so there will be that difference. As mentioned already, QMX has used Sid's photos of his raw kits in their newsletters and on their site.

Sid has recast a lot of other work. Coyle. Posieden. Tanio Koba. To name but a few. I don't blame anyone for thinking that he might have backdoored QMX. At the same time, I don't think he would be offering this stuff unless his contract with QMX allowed it.

At least I hope not!

So in other words, QMX is going to be selling a 3rd generation recast of Mals Firefly gun innacuratly reproduced and sold, labled as a screen accurate replica to the Serenity model while including an inaccurately reverse engineered Firefly holster?
My head is spinning.
