Showoff: Weta District 9 Arc Gun

If you guys are expecting me to show full resolution pictures from every angle with a ruler for size reference you are in for a big disappointment.

darn. Is this because you dont want people replicating it or you want to replicate it first. :confused

I can understand both arguments.

What a amazing find and beautiful addition to a prop collection. :love

congrats. :thumbsup

I think whatever is shown should be appreciated. Plus there were measurements already given in the auction. Let the guy enjoy his prop for a few days before making an exact replica of it... :lol

Good point. Afterall he did just spend $1500 on it (lucky sod ;) )

thanks for the pics so far.

I understand not wanting to post a bazillion photos so everyone can have what you have. However, would you mind taking a few questions?

Another RPFer noted in the other Arc Gun thread that a lot of the parts seem to be scavenged off a single-cylinder motorcycle engine (choke plate, etc.) Now that you've got the item in your possession, is there any validity to that line of thinking?

My Profound Apologies to the Host of THIS Post!!! It wasn't my intention to start a crap-storm of decent. I simply was hoping to Enjoy seeing more pics & I teased a little tougher that I should've. (alas, we don't know each other)

The use of the well-understood term "Showoff" (in the Title) gave me a chance to pull the leg of a person who is enjoying a well Paid-For & justly Earned experience. He is Fortunate to have a one-off of something that we ALL want to see Better!

Unfortunately (& Fortunately) - this arena (RPF) also has a hyper-strong twin-identity (& let's Not fool ourselves), it's a Market-Place! The item we're talking about has Value, well beyond G-man's (aKa: Griefboy) Possession - talented prop-smiths & their clients are already salivating. :love

So I fully understand & appreciate Griefboy's hesitation & reserve as-to showing every detail of his New Love.
Again, my Apologies!!! Mikel / Modeleer

Now's the time for all of us, even me, to give the man some breathing room & well deserved cudos.
Congrats & Enjoy!!!

That's Me! I fancy myself an eccentric artist type. I like to show-off on occasion & this being one (host willing & my fingers crossed), I'll let fly: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=55753&highlight=uwr

The pic is "from" a photo-shoot I did for a (Dark Horse) artist friend who wanted to add to his portfolio of characters. Some say that he took advantage of my over the top willingness to shave my head just for the pictures. They may be right. When given the chance, I tend to give my all!

i had planned to bid on that thing and held off, i knew i was gonna be kicking myself...:lol

i just felt in my nuggets that this movie was gonna be killer

did you happen to ask WETA if they are planning a run of these things?

thanks!

Yeah, I was ready to splurge on the auction too, but then I totally forgot about it. All for the better, I suppose, because I'm not an extra $1,500+ in debt. :)

But man, that thing would have been awesome in my humble collection :cry

I REALLY hope WETA makes replicas of these. I mean, if they can do their crazy original rayguns, they can make a few hundred of these :love:love:love

yeah, that's my hope too!...:thumbsup

i would think they would have at least two or three guns from the movie that geeks like us would buy

i think the movie was so far under the radar, and performed much better than anybody thought, that the marketing for the thing never really launched

since it seems to be such a hit, i'm sure someone will pick up the ball and run with it!...:)

Yes, the original master did use some found parts but only a few. Most of the gun was CnC’d. You can still see the CnC lines in my casting. That part above the handle does look like it came from a small engine. Those are definitely heat sinks.

I did ask Weta if they were going to make more and they said No but the marketing/sales guys might have different ideas. Who knows?

NOW it is a show-off thread, lol. Thank you. Awesome.

I had no inkling about the LED effect. (Had you kept that quiet, or am I just unobservant?) :) That is an amazing thing!
