UPDATE: Added more pics and a video.
As most of you have probably guessed, this is the District 9 Arc Gun that was up for auction on eBay right before the movie came out. It was part of the viral campaign that Sony was running to promote the movie but the actual auction duty was given to Premier Props. Premier never actually had the gun in their possession which explains why they knew so little about what they were auctioning. When I received the box from Sony Pictures you could still see the old Weta Workshop (From) label under the shipping label. I thought that was pretty cool.
After winning the auction I contacted Weta Workshop who were extremely helpful and gave me the lowdown on what I had just purchased. Very cool of them for taking the time to help me out. The gun was made as a special one off commission specifically for the auction. It is an exact duplicate of the screen used guns.
The construction, detailing and paint work is just amazing. You can really tell it was made by someone who knows what they were doing. The tip of the arc thingy/arm has a very bright LED the flashes when you pull the trigger. I think it's a 3w LED because you can't look directly at it when its flashing. Looks just like a welding arc even in the daylight. Very cool effect that I believe was done just for this replica and is not present on the screen used guns.
It was not cheap but considering who made it and how popular this movie is becoming, I'm very happy with my purchase. I just need some cans of cat food to use as a stand. Come on guys get on it! :lol

The top nano fluid canister disconnects!
Side cover removes to reveal the battery and electronics that run the LED lighting in the tip. You can see a video (.mov) of the Arc effect in action here.
The LED.
