Showoff: Capt. Harlock's Cosmodragoon

I finally finished up my Sidkit Cosmodragoon. Overall, it is a really nice kit. My only issue was with the skull & crossbones inlays on the grips. They were a tad off of the anime version, so I sculpted some new ones. Also, the cylinder was a bit to thick to sit in-line with the rest of the pistol, so that got a treatment on the sander.

The pistol was sprayed with flat black, then rubbed with graphite powder. The grips were done using water-based craft paint in three different brown tones. These paints dry exteremly quickly, which usually is a bad thing, but it provided a nice raised "wood grain" effect.

Now, on to the pics...

Great color on the "metal" parts!
What have you used to have that finish?

First, spray the piece with flat black, then rub it down with graphite powder. I buy the graphite in stick form at my local art supply place. Just run it over a sheet of 150 grit sandpaper to get the powder, then use a rag or paper towel to rub it in.

Did you use a clear coat to fix the graphite?:)

Wow, very nice! I didn't even know about this kit.

I've had a Denix pistol put aside to use as a base for making one of these for a couple of years. So many projects...

Thanks, All!

Unfortunately, it is now out of production. I was lucky to contact Sid just before he stopped making it.

I've heard of other people using the graphite procedure (and plan to once I build my CosmoDragroon) and the results look very good in person. Just alot of rubbing needed.

Nice work, Fez.
