1) I'm waffling between the version posted above and the classic one. Any opinions on this? Also not sure how I feel about that seam down the middle.

2) Tell me everything you know about body paint. Everything.

I'm off too look at wigs and fabric!

Wolfe Brothers Body Paint with some good sealer. They're stuff's water activated and I've seen it get some AMAZING coverage.

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

Also, you can "combine" the two designs as the top design looks as though it's the same as the bottom only adding a simple pair of purple jeans...

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

Light green look way too lime, I think. I've used ben nye and and krylon in the past...and I've had poor results with cake makeup. I've got access to an airbrush, do you know anything about that?

and the two versions are really only different in the details, I know. Gloves, boots, pants, whatever.

Thanks for the input!

Ok, I was Asajj Ventress in the 501st so I've become quite the expert when it comes to body paint.
First of all a green body suit would be the best option, saves time, makeup and it's less messy. A very thin fabric almost like tights, if you can't find the right shade you're better off getting a light fabric and dying it.

As for the face, kryolan is my paint of choice. Airbrushing is the most professional way to do it, but of you don't have one of those, Kryolan also has something called a 'TV paint stick' that's oil based but stays on very well.
Finally you'll need a make-up sealer, I've used alot of different brands, doesn't seem to make a difference.
Although I use two coats, one as soon as the make-up is done and another layer when the first one has dried.

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

Having tried to airbrush someone overall green, consistency can be a big trick. I've got no experience with body suits, but I can see where they would be advantageous. Paint looks great on film, but doesn't hold up real well over any length of time. I've worked with Mehron's liquid makeup and with acrylic paint and both can look awesome, but the more you move the more you loose. Skin is really flexible stuff, way more so than paint, so it wears off, cracks, and needs constant touch-up.

Seems like it would be difficult to match the colors of the bodysuit and the face makeup perfectly but I still see how this makes sense. I had been planned on doing that for the legs to begin with, so thanks for the tip.

Anyone seen any good green wigs floating around? I keep finding tons of olive ones but little else.

I tried to paint myself for halloween...after like ten minutes, it was a no-go. Too messy. Would you suggest mehrons liquid makeup if it was just for the face?

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

I asked a purple Twi'lek at last years SDCC how she did her paint and she said she used a resin based spray paint meant for skin. If I remember correctly, the first layer was a resin spray, then the resin body paint. It looked great and it didn't transfer to her clothes.

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

I have no persornal experience with body makeup, but I do know what I see, and one thing I notice is 99% of the people I see with full body makeup (instead of a body suit) will have some sort of flakeage or stuff rubbing off. Especially near elbows and the inside of the arms.

Its one thing to have to touch up face makeup, but if you're going to be walking around a con all day, the body suit idea (for the arms and legs, depending on what version you do) would probably make your life a whole lot easier.

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

You might want to look into liquid latex. It should give you consistent color, and has a little bit of give once dried so it shouldn't peel or flake.
Adi Granov did the artwork for the second pic you posted (the one with the seam you aren't too enthused about) and he gave Iron Man the new look, that the movies was based off of. I'm a big Granov fan so I'd vote for that look.

Oh, one thing about liquid latex, the majority of body paintings I've done/seen with it have had a glossy look. Not sure if they make a matte version or not, you might want to look into that.

You could try a green henna bath...but that would last a while.

Here's a liquid latex reference:

The only time I really liked the She-Hulk was when Byrne drew her as Ben's replacement in the FF:

Although were you to paint yourself green and wear a Fantastic Four costume, I would imagine many more people than Matt Munson would be driving around NC looking for you. :lol

I saw somebody do that one! It's interesting but idk that I would go for it...She-hulk is one of the few superhero females I can even STAND. Might as well go for the classic version, ugly trainers and all ;]

Not for a long period, no. You've got so much more movement in the face, I'd expect it to crack and rub off a lot with any length of time.

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

I keep picking up the P90X box and then throwing it aside in fear.

I'm on my 4th round of P90X. Take your time with it and don't be afraid! It really does allow you to modify the program to what you want. The scary part is closing your pie-hole and not stuffing it with KFC and doughnuts all day long! :)

You can do it!

Re: Shulkie by valentines day! (She-Hulk WIP)

As for the body suit method:
I know that for the broadway production of Wicked they used a very thin stretchy material to cover the the upper torso (arms, hands, and shoulders), and they got it to match the shade of green make-up they used on the face exactly. I thought for the longest time that they had just painted the actress wherever she was green...

innnnnnteresting. You can even almost see it right here.

I guess the trick will really just be finding a way to get it perfectly matched...
