Shards of Narsil (and display)

Hello all,

Just finished this and thought I would show it off.

Per a few discussions before, I took a cheap Narsil and traced the breaks with a sharpie and cut it up with the thin cut-off disks. It went better than I thought. Took about 8 disks and 2-3 hours. I did a black paint wash and hit the whole thing with testors dull coat.

For the display I made a template out of paper and taped it to a sheet of MDF and cut it out with my router. I sanded it down, put up some shelf brackets, a quick trip to the material store for some of the blue/silver material and there it is. The whole project cost less that $50.

I am pretty happy with it, I hope you like it.

Thanks Wackychimp.

Sure.

I got the sword here:
http://topgearleathers.zoovy.com/product/W2438

A couple things about this sword.
1- The handle (fake) leather is navy blue. I removed it and used a very large piece of black shrink tubing. Looks pretty good.

2-You can see the gold inlays. You can knock these out with a screwdriver real easy. I scraped out the glue.

3- The Blade did not exit the handle straight. The pommel unscrews. The manufacturer welded a threaded rod to the blade and was bent. I just carefully bent it straight and reassembled and it fixed it.

Hey, for $20 what the heck. Not a bad replica for a cut up piece.

tell me of this shrink tube?
where do you get it

We had the shrink tube at work. if you look for shrink tubbing 1-1/2", you will be all set. If you bought this one and can't find any, I guess I could send you a piece.

Excellent job. That sword looks great (not that the rest of the display doesn't, but the sword really brings it all together). :thumbsup :thumbsup

I used a Dremel cutting wheel on my sword project as well. I found it pretty amazing how easy it was to cut through the blade on these "economy" swords.

wow dood, i just checked out your Conan project, thats really incredible what you did there.

That looks great. I did the same thing months ago with a cheap knock-off. But I used way more than 8 disks. It was more like 30.

Very nicely done. I really like the wash idea.

Talk about a deal for $21, the price listed on the regular page is $35 :) I saw that the address ended with W2348 instead of 2348, I THINK it's the wholesale page(W).

But in any case, that is a fine piece of work. Find a nice cheap lady statue to set er on ;)
Sweet.

That's fantastic.

I may have to do this myself. I would love to have the shards alongside my other LOTR swords.
