Serenity model...

I just wanted to get you folks' opinion on this. I'd like to have a Serenity model - unfortunately, I haven't got any sculpting skill myself, so I'm trying one of the mass-produced ones. Thing is, I don't know which one to go for. Choice A is the Dark Horse-produced Serenity Ornament, which is inexpensive, fairly detailed, and doesn't take up too much space in the dorm room. Choice B is the upcoming QMX Serenity model, which is (probably) significantly more expensive, (probably) extremely detailed, and (probably) not quite as compact, since it's referred to as a "large-scale replica" on the website.

So the question is, do I get the cheap, not-too-shabby ornament now, or wait a while and pay more for the (probably) higher-quality QMX model? ...Or both?

Your thoughts?

My vote would be get the inexpensive ornament now while it is readily available. Then onc ethe QMX ship is ready, if it is jaw dropping and a must have get it too and give the ornament to a friend or family member fan and make them happy too :)

Hmmm...guess I can't go wrong with that. :D

Yep, for 20 bucks, you can't go wrong with the ornament. I have one, and I love it, it keeps my desk at work shiny.

Got the ornament and planning on the QmX when it's announced.

But the I got Phil's Mal's pistol and getting the QmX one pluse the money pack, a Jayne's pistol and all of whitefalls papers. hehe.

Definately go for the ornament. For the price, it can not be beat. Hands down.

And QMX is going a large scale model? Gotta dig through their site a bit more....that's one ship I would not mind getting in large scale...

I purchased a 1:87 Serenity model from the Starshipmodels.com store last summer. Dunno if they still stock it, but the model was okay. It needs some cleanup and detailing, but seems acceptable.

Now I just need to build the thing.

question about the dark horse serenity ornament:

is this available only online or is there a place i could grab it in stores too?

thanks :)

Try the Dark Horse website they have a "find a dealer" page. If you have any locally call them first I didn't and had a wasted journey. I ended up getting mine from e-bay. Now it sits in my cabinet, I couldn't get anything bigger due to space considerations.

My wife got it for me from a comic book shop here in Indy.

Guy who runs it knows I am a fan, so when she went in for her walking dead and haunted mansion comics, he showed it to her.

Speaking of Serenity models....Thomas Models seems to have pulled down the thread about his uber-detailed Serenity model. Hope he hasn't cancelled it. :(

I've been looking at pics of the kit and the ornament... they seem to be really similar (at a glance at least).

I'm doing a scratch-build, but it's on hold right now due to time issues. Plus I'm also waiting on the QMX version. I just hope it has a reasonable price tag like the gun.
