Secret Agent Man...what's out there?

I'm THINKING about dressing up for a local event, mostly to hang out with some friends and have a good time, but I do not want to go as the regular black jacket black pantsd white shirt black tie secret agent (read: B.O.R.I.N.G.!!!)

So what can one put together in three weeks with a shoe-string budget (since this is a one-off thing, I don't wanna spoend much on it), but still looks decent enough to not be yawn-inducing?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I like the idea but sadly, not many here would know or remewmber Maxwell Smart...

And I don't particularly like the idea of walking round the entire evening with a shoe to my ear waiting for someone to ask me what I'm doing with that :lol
