Searching for Babylon 5

Hi all! I have been doing a Babylon 5 marathon for the last few weeks and I gotta say I love this show. Then I looked over at my model collection and realized a horrible omission in my collection... No B5 models.

I can no longer abide this. I think it's only natural to start with the B5 station herself.

My question, can anyone point me to a place where I can get the station. Looking for good detail, decent size, a sturdy stand, ya know the basics.

I did a look on Google but thought better of it as people here might have better inside knowledge. Plastic, resin, as long as it's made well I don't care.

I figure after that I'll look into Earth force warships, Minbari warships and so on... maybe even Babylon 4?!

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Thanks. The only things I saw at starshipmodeler.com was reference and reviews of the Revell model, didn't see where I could actually buy it there. Federation models has a few things... Looks like the Revell B5 model is a bit rare...

If you can find them, Factory X made some nice pewter display models - they made a version of the station, with silver solar collectors:

and a Psi Corps "Black Omega" Starfury:

I've always wanted a BIG Babylon 5 station. I bought a bunch of plastruct tubing and have it planned out in my head. But alas, with no scratchbuilding skillsss it'll never be.

I think Johnny crash at MMI did a BIG Babylon 5. showed me a pic once. had almost the entire hull done. said he mailed it to a guy who promised to do some work on it-then never saw the model again.

Warp Models makes versions of the Whitestar Shadowkiller, Earthforce Destroyers, Shadow Battlecrabs, and other stuff.

Takes some experience building resin models but they usually turn out really nice if you take your time to build them.

Ya know, after looking at the Revell B5 model those big decals, well it looks like a real nightmare! I have a hard enough time with regular and small decals. Ya mess up on just one of the big ones it's game over! :eek

the warp starfury wasn't bad, but the resin wings tended to be warped. lots of hot water was the order of the day. built into a reasonable model though

I could never find good B5 models. Comet Miniatures is a nice find. And yeah, a Minbari Sharlin cruiser would be nice to have as well as both Vorlon and Narn cruisers in big scales.

My friend Dan is a big B5 fan and he picked up the Revell model off ebay for around $15 last year. It's not really a big kit though.

If you like really nice miniatures, Iron Wind metals (The old Ral Partha of D&D and Battletech) produced a very fine pewter B5 line until last year.

The Revell B5 station is a bit on the small side. That being said though, it does have the benefit of being close to the same scale as the AoG miniatures, which makes for some interesting diorama possibilities. One of the reasons I haven't built one is Revell got a bit greedy back then as their plan was to do the station with limited stuff (i.e. the decal sheet wasn't quite complete) and then about a year later issue a special deluxe limited edition version of the same kit with the stuff they SHOULD have had in the first issue. They did it with the Starfury, offering the standard one with only Ivonova's ship being one of the principal ships on the kit and left the markings for Sinclair, Sheridan, Garabaldi and others for the deluxe version a few months later. Starfuries are one thing though as you can build Starfuries until you are blue in the face and never have to build exactly the same one all the time. But, since B5 is the ONLY station, it seemed a little dumb to issue two kits of it. As such, I think Revell took a bath on the station, which is why they weren't out for very long. The second kit never did materialize There were plans to reissue the B5 kits last year, but I guess WB is being a bit too expensive with the licensing and the plans were cancelled.

The Revell Starfury has something of a love hate relationship among modelers I know. They don't like the raised panel lines on it or the lacking in detail guns. That being said, the model makes a really nice blank canvas for building up a cool model. I first cut my teeth on pastel chalks with one of these along with custom wing art. It may not have been FineMolds state of the art for an out of the box build, but I am very proud of my results with it. SSM also has some nice resin bits for it.

Funny this thread should come back now... I just received my Revell B5 station model TODAY. :cool

Started with the primer but ran out half way in... Ordered the paint I'll need and more primer today as well, should have it in a week or so. I'm taking pics of each stage of assembly. When I'm all done I'll either post them in this thread or dedicate a new one for it... depending on what the forum rules/mods would like. The central spine is hollow underneath, kinda annoying. I'll try filling it in with putty, we'll see how it works out.

I always love starting a new model... there's no other smell like it! :love
