SDS now taking orders on TIE pilot armour

Hi,

Just got an email from SDS stating they will be making the TIE pilot armour. I for one love the TIE pilot and have been waiting on this one for ages. Anyway here is a description from the email sent and as stated pictures will be up soon on their website.

<div class='quotetop'></div>
It consists of...
Front Chest moulding
Shoulder Straps
Upper back moulding
Breathing box & instrumentation
Breathing hoses ( preformed to shape)
Waste outlet hose.
Delivery time...4 weeks from order.
This Chest Armour compliments the Tie Pilot helmet and completes the character just as the originals.
Even the Breathing hoses are from the original supplier, an absolute must for all owners of the Tie Pilot.
Images should be up on the web site soon[/b]

I just hope it is exactly as it says as this is the one I have been waiting for.

Cheers Chris.

I thopught they had to cease production of trooper armor etc due to the previous tangle with LFL, has something changed?

LFL cant touch him because theyre in 2 different countries.

Oh i see, i have noticced though that their trooper armor is very very pricey, seems to have gone up since the LFL entanglements :D

Not entirely true...

how is the quality of their armor?

how does it compare with quality fan built stuff?

Oye. There's a BAAAAADDDDD question to ask, hehe.. I would suggest doing a search for any one of the multiple SDS threads that have popped up here....

BZZZT. Wrong answer.

You aren't free to violate international copyright laws just because you live in another country. LFL has the power to stop him if they chose.

At this point, they haven't and SDS have ignored the fact that the courts have found in LFL's favor and that he's violating thier IP rights. What happens next is up in the air.

That's the gist of it.

Sits back pops popcorn and waits for this thread to reach 30 pages.

I'll bring the soda.

Let's keep this thread about the TIE armor itself. Is it accurate, is it worth the price, all that kind of stuff. The SDS/LFL battle is such traveled ground around here that we've worn through a mile of bedrock already. No point in having another giant debate thread about it.

I agree... no need for a mass debate.... :lol :love

On a more serious note... should be interesting to see what they produce... just seems to be hard parts by the sound of it. No overalls, gloves, belt etc. etc. ?

Cheers,
John

I couldn't really care less about the legalities between LFL and SDS and to be honest I think half the people who did debate it couldn't have cared less either. It was more like point scoring for the same people who constantly argue with each other on this forum.

If SDS have anything worthy to offer then I will certainly give it a look over (not saying I will buy it). I am the same as almost everybody on this forum I have bought from unlicensed prop makers and find it amazing how worked up people got about the legal battle. If the people who care so much about the SDS/LFL legal case looked at their own collections then they might realise they are throwing stones in glass houses when it comes to licensed props.

Anyway the point is there are a fair few TIE pilot fans who have a great interest in this new prop and if it is what it claims to be then I personally have wanted an accurate set of TIE armour for ages.

So I am asking as the person who started this thread and only wants to discuss the TIE armour prop please don't bog this thread down with any of the armchair lawyer stuff that lasted pages and was really just speculation and guess work and went absolutely nowhere. This isn't some right wing nazi clamp down on this thread or mysterious powerful prop lords telling people to be silent its just a request not to bog down a thread on a prop that the TIE pilot fans may have a great deal of interest in :)

Lets just see when pictures become available if this piece has any relation to the screen used prop or not.

Will it be accurate or not? That is the big question.

Cheers Chris.

From what I've been told about the trooper suit the thickness, assembly, etc. is pretty much on par to other fan-made armor. Some have complained of thin spots, however I've heard the same complaints about just about every other "brand" of suit as well. The ultimate test will be what it looks like, and if claims of accuracy are met.

Yup, just do a search on SDS here and you will find the complaints. Thin spots, joints coming undone, yellowing, cracking, et al. You can find better parts for cheaper than SDS.

From a collector's standpoint, if you have an SDS TIE helmet, this is going to be a must-have. I'm pleased he's providing tubes from the original supplier. I recall that being a topic recently trying to find the source. I'm fairly pragmatic about this whole SDS stuff. I don't see any other original makers from 1976 producing authentic prop replicas out there. I don't care how thick or thin the plastic is...as long as it's the same as the originals. I hope he'll produce the Death Star detention guard helmet someday as well :D.

But they are not from the original maker. ;) Let's face it, you don't buy SDS stuff because you want thicker armor...

Also, what cracking? The yellowing didn't seem to be a common thing and AA seemed to take care of all his customers with major problems.

Not to get into a debate at all but just to clarify some facts, the court case against SDS continues as we speak... It's not over yet... At this time the courts are looking over LFL's request for damages and sorts, they were supposed to rule on it or at least hash it out on Monday in court but it has been pushed back for further court review by the Judge...

As for the International issues, once the US courts are done what happens next is up to LFL, but this whole "he is immune to violating IP rights because he reside in the EU" isn't going to go far in todays world market with the very US friendly European Union... There are many legal factors and sorts that can come into play and only time will tell the outcome...

** Due note and this is only an FYI post, if and when the courts rule for damages and/or injunctions against SDS products could very well be included... This could very well come into play when people in the US place orders and try to get a delivery that customs intercepts... This could literally happen any day, as like I said it was supposed to happen this Monday...

Now continue on with the armor stuff...

I must admit, i would buy sds trooper armor in a flash, i do like it, and i'm damn sure the TIE stuff would be good too. But the prices are out of this world. Think i'll stick with FX for now.

I personally own a set of SDS Stormie armour and find that it's on par with all the other fan made suits regarding quality & build...

Some people have had problems with a few cracks appearing, but it's been sorted by AA straight away... can't fault him on his service that's for sure.

The TIE armour is long overdue, and nice to see it's finally coming out. Can't wait to see the results on this one.

Hopefully, a Battle Spec lid will be produced too, as I certainly wouldn't fancy trooping in the £400 version...

Might have to give him a call... :)
